1. Reference: Probability and Statistics Textbook Exercise Book Section 2.2 #4 (a,b)
Solution:
a) For part a, draw a cumulative frequency graph as has been done from
before. Make sure the data is always continuous.
b)
Using the table from a, plot the upper boundary of each interval
on the x-axis versus the cumulative frequency of that interval
on the y-axis. Then join all the dots with a smooth curve.

In order to draw a cumulative frequency curve, make sure first of all to construct a
cumulative frequency table as shown below. Make sure the intervals are also continuous.
Using the table, plot the upper boundary of each interval on the x-axis versus the cumulative
frequency of that interval on the y-axis. Then join all the dots with a smooth curve.

To estimate the median from the curve, we first of all have to find half of 40 which is twenty. Using
your ruler, draw a straight line from 20 on the y-axis and parallel to the x-axis till it intersects the
curve. Then draw a line from that point of intersection parallel to the y-axis till it intersects the xaxis. This value is your median. Repeat the same procedure for the lower quartile by taking a quarter
of 40 and for the upper quartile by taking three-quarters of 40. If asked to find the interquartile
range, then take the upper quartile found and subtract from it the lower quartile.
