Malaysia, the TG community in Pahang expressed deep desires to set up a
CBO of their own. IHPs Area-Based Program Management Training (APMT)
held on 25th to 27th March 2015 in Cathayana Hotel, Kuantan made it
possible.

Through the APMT, the participants learnt about the five elements of an
effective program, namely: services, people, financing, M&E and policy. Every
element that was taught was immediately put into action by the participants
discussing how it would apply to Berlian - the name chosen for their proposed
CBO which means Diamond. Focussing on these elements helped the participants realise what issues they
should realistically prioritise. Health and the welfare of the community turned out to be their priority.

The 16 members of the Pahang TG community who were brought together in this workshop were able to
craft Berlians vision, mission and goals. With their new knowledge gained, the participants were able to
understand that they needed to approach the setting up of their CBO in a more practical and pragmatic
manner and not be over ambitious. In line with this, an interim committee was elected and the workshop
ended with the discussion of their immediate next steps in the process of formalising and registering
Berlian.
