1 Introduction
Nemo HandyA 1.50 is an Androidbased solution for measuring and monitoring the air interface of
GSM, CDMA, EVDO, WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, LTE, and WiFi wireless networks, and mobile
application QoS/QoE. Nemo HandyA features include POLQA voice quality testing, indoor
measurements, HTML testing with real web browser, and live outdoor map support with BTS icons.
Nemo HandyA provides you with the best realtime measurement visualization on the handheld
market. Nemo HandyAs extensive application testing features offer full application level metrics on
voice calls, voice quality, FTP/HTTP data transfers, HTML browsing, YouTube video streaming, SMS
messaging, and ping.
Nemo HandyA measurement data provides you with a complete and detailed picture of the radio
interface and the quality of the tested applications. The detailed and comprehensive radio interface
data recorded with Nemo HandyA is optimal for network planning, rollout, tuning, verification,
optimization, and maintenance. The application performance metrics are vital in mobile service
benchmarking and QoS/QoE evaluation. Continuous recording of radio interface metrics ensures that
the reasons for less than satisfactory service quality can always be found.
Nemo HandyA can be used either as a regular phone with the application logging in the background,
or as an active measurement tool with realtime data. Nemo HandyA's small size and extensive
measurement capabilities make it also the ideal tool for performing indoor and outdoor
measurements. Nemo HandyA logs and displays geographical coordinates using the mobiles internal
GPS receiver.
All network parameters supported by the terminals mobile trace interface, including signaling
messages, are logged and made available for playback with Nemo Outdoor and for postprocessing
with Nemo Analyze. However, Nemo HandyAs full and proven compatibility with thirdparty tools
enables also postprocessing with any other tool supporting the Nemo file format.

2.1 HTC One XL

Operating system: Android 4.04 (ICS)
Supported technologies: GSM, WCDMA, LTE

HSDPA: Cat 14 (21Mbps); HSUPA: Cat 6 (5.76Mbps)
LTE: 1800/2600MHz (E-UTRA bands 3, 7)
3 Nemo Handy-A 1.50 New Features
3.1 POLQA voice quality measurements (optional)

Nemo Handy 1.50 supports POLQA Voice Quality measurements. Measurements can be
done mobile to mobile, and mobile to serve, and r both downlink and uplink. SWB(Super
Wideband) and NB (Narrowband) POLQA measurement modes are supported. POLQA
automatic level alignment is supported. POLQA MOS score is assessed on real time and
displayed charts during the measurements.
POLQA is supported with following terminals:

- Samsung Galaxy S III LTE GT-I9305 (Euro/Asia)
- Samsung Galaxy S III LTE SGH-I747 (AT&T)
- Samsung Galaxy S III LTE SGH-I747M (Bell, Telus)
- Samsung Galaxy S III LTE SGH-T999(T-Mobile)
- Samsung Galaxy S III LTE SPH-L710 (Sprint)
Uplink volume setting in voice quality measurement settings must be left in default (5)
value unless otherwise instructed by Nemo Technical support.
POLQA mode (NB or SWB) is automatically selected based on used reference sample.
When using samples with _WB postfix in the name, POLQA SWB mode will be used.
Otherwise NB mode POLQA is used. Note that SWB POLQA will give incorrect results
when used over regular narrowband voice channel. SWB POLQA should be only used
with mobile to mobile testing when in both ends the terminal and the network are using
WB-AMR voice codecs.
3.2 YouTube
Nemo Handy 1.50 supports YouTube measurements manually and with scripts. Streaming
state (buffering/playing/stopped), data connection events, video size, and application
throughput are recorded.
Note that due to YouTube policy, only videos without advertisements can be played.
3.3 Wi-Fi measurements
Nemo Handy-A 1.50 supports Wi-Fi measurements. If access point is connected, and Wi-
Fi is enabled in the Handy menu, Wi-Fi will be used for data transfers of Handy the same
way as terminal normally does. Recorded Wi-Fi metrics: RSSI, security, channel,
frequency, SSID.
3.4 UI Shortcuts between the horizontal pages
Nemo Handy-A 1.50 supports shortcuts between the pages in horizontal direction. By
tapping the page title, shortcut menu pops up, from where different page can be selected.
3.5 BTS information on the map
Showing BTS info is supported in Nemo Handy-A v1.50. When tapping on a site on the
outdoor map, popup menu appears to choose a sector of the site, details of that sector will
then be displayed on the map. Details to be shown can be customized from the settings.
3.6 Customizable notifications
Custom notifications can be created with Nemo Handy v1.50. Notifications can be
triggered based any of the metrics available on real time. Triggers can be based on testing
the parameter value: below /above threshold, equal to, not equal to. There is also time
hysteresis that can be set, that is, the condition must be true for the defined time period to
trigger the event.
3.7 Other Improvements

- Automatic panning on indoor map wit predefined route two show current, previous
and next marker
- Nbl logfile size decreased 80% in LTE
- Possibility to use transfer settings from recently used HTTP transfers
4 Compatibility
4.1 Log File Format Compatibility

Nemo Handy-A 1.50 writes log files according to Nemo File Format v.2.15. The Nemo File
Manager version 3.4.25 or newer is compatible with Nemo Handy-A 1.50.
Full support for Nemo Handy-A 1.50 log files is available with Nemo Analyze version 6.40
and Nemo Outdoor version 6.40 and later.
4.2 Terminal Compatibility

Previous versions of Nemo Handy can be upgraded to version 1.50 by installing the v.1.50
SW to the terminal.
Firmware upgrade for the terminals is generally not needed. Exceptions:

- HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Raider, HTC Vivid, and HTC Amaze firmware must be
upgraded if the Handy version used is v1.10 or older in order to support voice call
testing and forcing functions.
- Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket FW version 70/2, and Samsung Galaxy S II LTE
I9210 FW version 71/2 and onwards support IP Capture. FW for these terminals
must be upgraded t measure IP capture if the terminal has older

5 Known Issues
Occasionally diagnostics messages may be lost with Samsung Galaxy SIII I9305
(EU/Asia version), and Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE. This may be seen e.g. as
undetected call disconnects. This problem exists only with terminals delivered by
Anite before February 2013.
To fix the issue, take the following steps:

- Go to dialer of the phone
- Enter *#9090#
- Select [6] DBG MSG OFF
- DEBUG(F3) MSG OFF. is show on the screen
- Press back button and home button.
- DO NOT SELECT ANY OF THE OTHER ITEMS IN THE MENU. THE
TERMINAL WILL BE PERMANENTLY DEFECTED!
