There are five main habitats on the earth-forest, desert, polar region, ocean and fresh water.

3Q. Explain the different habitats of animals.


The different animals based on their habitats are-
Terrestrial animals-Animals that live on land are called Terrestrial animals.eg: Lion, tiger, elephant, giraffe
Aerial animals- Animals that spend most of their time in the air are called Aerial animals.
Eg: Birds and bats
Arboreal animals-Animals that spend most of their time on trees are called arboreal.
Eg: Monkeys and squirrels.
Aquatic animals-Animals that live in water are called Aquatic animals.
Eg: Different kinds of fish, crabs, dolphins, whales and seals.
Amphibians-Animals that live on both land and water are called amphibians.
Eg: frogs, toads, salamanders.

The different body covering of animals are skin with hair; feathers, fur, scales, chitin and shell are some of
them.

Animals need food to live and grow. Some animals eat plants and some eat other animals.

Herbivores-Animals that eat only plants and its parts are called herbivorous animals or herbivores
Carnivores-Animals that eat flesh of other animals are called carnivorous animals or carnivores
Omnivores-Animals that eat both plants and other animals are called omnivorous animals or omnivores

6Q. Explain warm and cold blooded animals.


Warm blooded-Mammals and birds are warm-blooded, which means that they can make their own body heat
even when it is cold outside. Whether it is sunny and hot outside or there is a snowstorm and it is very cold,
warm-blooded animals have body temperature that stays the same whether it is hot or cold outside.
Cold blooded-Cold-blooded animals, like reptiles, amphibians, and fish, become hotter and colder, depending
on the temperature outside. For example, when the sun sets at night, their bodies are cooler because it is less
warm outside. When the sun is out, however, their bodies soak up the heat and become warmer.
Body temperature depends on whether it is hot or cold outside.

7Q. what are Adaptations?


A. All the special characteristics that help an animal to live in its environment are called adaptations.

8Q.How do birds fly?


A.A birds body has many features that help them to fly. They are -
1. Birds have a stream lined body.
2. Birds have hollow bones. (filled with air).
3. The birds have wings made up of feathers and strong wing muscles which help them to fly for a longer
distance.
4. The birds have a tail made up of feathers which help them to change direction during the flight.

A. The body of birds are covered with feathers. The two types of feathers are-
a. Flight feathers They are long and seen on the tail and wings of the bird which help them to fly and change
direction.
b. Down feathers- They keep the body of the birds warm during cold weather.

The types of beaks seen in birds are
