TA Office hours will be held in Rhodes 431 or another room nearby. Specific locations,
days, and times will be announced.

Course Description
Database and statistical techniques for data mining, graphical display, and predictive
analysis in the context of industrial systems (manufacturing and distribution). Database
techniques include structured query language (SQL), and geographical information
systems (GIS). Statistical techniques include multiple linear regression, classification,
logistic regression, clustering, and time series forecasting. Industrial systems analysis
includes factory scheduling and simulation, materials planning, and inventory planning.

Packet
$40.50 at the Cornell Store. Required. It is three-hole punched, loose-leaf, so get a
three-ring binder, too.

Prerequisite
ENGRD 2700 Basic Engineering Probability and Statistics
If you have not already taken ENGRD 2700 or an equivalent course, it is acceptable to
take ENGRD 2700 concurrently with ORIE 3120. ENGRD 2700 is a standard calculus-
based introductory probability and statistics class.

Blackboard/Piazza:
The course website can be found at http://blackboard.cornell.edu/. Administrative
announcements, lecture notes, homework assignments and grades will be posted on the
course website. Piazza is a way to post questions, anonymously or not. Anyone can
respond.

It is a tradition to give one bonus point for filling out the course evaluation. There are no
other bonus points.

Homework Submission
Homeworks are due on Wednesdays before 2:30 PM in the course drop-box opposite
Rhodes 206. Homework submissions should be labeled with your printed real full name
and section number to ensure prompt recording of your grade and efficient return to you
in recitation. All homework assignments are weighted equally. Your lowest homework
assignment score will be dropped when computing your overall homework score.

Academic Integrity
Homework assignments should be done on an individual basis. You may certainly discuss
ideas with other students, but you should not copy anyone elses homework. The
handouts, homework, and homework solutions are the property of the authors. To post
such material on a Web site is violation of copyright law and is also a violation of
academic integrity.

Exam Conflicts
Please schedule your job interviews so that they do not conflict with the scheduled
examinations. Makeup exams are only available to those with scheduled exam conflicts
at the same exact time.
