Desert Safety Box


All four wheel drive vehicles intended to be driven in the desert shall be equipped with desert survival kit as
per specification stipulated below.

# Item Description and Instruction for Use No:


1. Smoke Canister: Open the red plastic cap. Pull the ring firmly to break seal. Roll / throw 2
the can away from you once the smoke is emanated.
2. Heliograph Signalling Mirror: Hold the mirror against the sunlight and put reflection on 1
a surface. Look through the hole aligning the target. Weep the mirror over the target
area and your signal will be visible to rescuers.
3. Space Blanket: Open to full width. Make a shed by putting up against the vehicle or 1
wrap around your body as required.
4. Cyalume Light Sticks: Hold firmly with both hands. Putting pressure in centre with 2
thumbs, just bend once. Once the glass cartridge brakes inside, mix the solution by
shaking. Instantly it glows and is ready for use.
5. Glare Paper Roll / Sheet: Spear the paper on the ground with fluorescent side facing 1 Roll
up. Put weight (sand or stones) on the edges of the paper, to keep it in position and
with a clear view for the approaching aircraft.
6. Compass: Hold the Compass in one hand and pull the cord with the other. Fold the 1
mirror by tipping the Compass. The distance between the markings on the outside of
the housing is 3/16; when fully opened an additional 2 is available between the body
of the Compass and the end of the drawer frame. The bearing is the angle between
true North and line of travel. It can be read off on the index. The Compass dial is
divided into 360. The positioning of the mirror the Compass offers you the advantage
of accurate, uncomplicated sighting of the line of travel while observing the Compass
capsule. By turning yourself with Compass in sighting position, ne needle must be
made to settle with the red end between the parallel north markings on the capsule.
For approximate general sighting the Compass is held at waist level and the needle
observed from above (Full details are available in the manual enclosed with the
Compass)

mark and auto coloured green. Items that are found not available, not in good working condition and not
sound fit for purpose are marked with "X" mark and auto coloured red.
If this inspection report has one single "X" or red colour, the vehicle is considered not fit for driving in ADCO
concession area; hence the vehicle standard is not acceptable and should be removed.

4.0 Tanker Checklist (In addition to HGV Checklist)

1. Each vehicle or tanker shall be externally marked (painted) with the
type of fluid hauled in line with UAE traffic Law.
Tankers shall clearly state capacity in barrels and fluid carried as per
traffic rules.
2. Tank must be secured to vehicle sub-frame.
No. of brackets and U Bolts shall be compatible to load.
3. Hazard warning panels are correct and clean.
4. Transport emergency card is available.
5. Transfer Pumps provided should be capable to pump & discharge
weighted viscous fluid.
6. Fuel Tanker is to be fitted with flow meter to measure the fluid
discharge.
7. Ventilation gate/valve from top.
8. 4/6 outlet valve on the bottom of the tank, collecting tray to be
fitted below the outlet valve.
9. Safety lockout valves
10. Valves are in good operating condition, protected with caps and are
lockable.
11. All tankers shall be fitted with a minimum of two manholes.
As a minimum manholes shall be 407mm (16 inches) by 356mm (14
inches) if they are rectangular, or 407mm (16 inches) in diameter if
circular.
12. Manholes (except in the case of potable water tankers) shall be
designed to resist opening in the event of a rollover.
13. Manholes (except in the case of potable water tankers) shall be
protected by a valance. The valance shall be higher than the manhole
and cover, and any other tank top fittings.
14. Correct earth connection is fitted and in good condition.
15. Non-skid surfaces are fitted where access is required (e.g. ladders)
and are in good condition
16. The Tanker shall be fitted with two (2) Internal Partitions (with Open
Bottom for Fluid Passage) to minimize wobbling.

Trucks used for haulage of crude oil shall be equipped with following

18. 9 kg of Portable Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher

19. Suction and delivery hoses of rubber type

20. Spark arrestor on the truck exhaust pipe

21. Master Isolation Switch

22. Vacuum relief valve, with suitable flame/ arrester.
