Basic Configuration Principles
The BTS3900 developed by Huawei is an indoor macro
BTS. The BTS3900 mainly consists of the BBU and DRFUs

A single BTS3900 cabinet provides up to 12 carriers with

the maximum cell configuration of S4/4/4, and supports the
dual-band application

Multiple cabinets support up to 72 carriers in the maximum

cell configuration of S24/24/24

Basic Configuration Principles
 Minimum cost

 Smooth upgrade of configuration

 Minimum number of DRFUs

 Minimum number of BBUs

 Minimum number of antennas

RF Configuration Principles
A maximum of three levels of DRFUs can be connected to
one BBU

Mode of configuring two TRXs in one cell

A single DRFU does not support the S1/1 application; however,
three DRFUs support the S3/3 application

When the DRFU works in transmit PBT, transmit diversity, or 4-

way receive diversity mode, a DRFU provides only one TRX.
Therefore, the actual configuration does not involve the mode
of configuring two TRXs in one cell

Configuration Principles of the BBU
One BBU supports six CPRI ports. The star topology is recommended
between DRFUs

Minimum number of trunk cables. You can determine the number of trunk
cables as required, and take the existing configuration for saving
transmission resources into account in networking

Minimum number of UPEUs. The configuration of a single UPEU is

recommended. The redundancy backup mode can be configured if
required

UPEU
The universal power and environment interface unit (UPEU) supports the -
48V /-24V DC power input, supplies power to the boards, modules, and fan
in the BBU, and provides access to multiple environment monitoring
signals

Cabinet Combination
When the DRFU is used for configurations larger than S444 and no
greater than S888, two cabinets in combined or stack mode are required.
In the case that the area and height of the equipment room meet the
requirements of both the combined and stack modes, the stack mode is
recommended for easy capacity expansion
When the configuration is larger than S888 and no greater than S121212,
three cabinets in combined mode are required
For internal monitoring of two or three +24 V DC/220 V AC cabinets, one
UEIU is required. Note that only the 48 V DC cabinet supports the stack
installation

 Installation Procedures
After installing the two cabinets side by side, remove the connecting plates on top of
the two cabinets. Then, connect the two cabinets by using the connecting plates at
the back of the cabinets and then install the equipotent cable
The cables inside the cabinet are installed before delivery
Connect the two monitoring cables between two cabinets.
For example, two monitoring cables are required for combined 48 V DC cabinets: One is
connected to the COM IN port on the FMUB in the extension cabinet and the COM OUT port
on the FMUB in the basic cabinet. Another is connected to the EXT-ALM0 port on the BBU
and the MON port on the DCDU-01 in the extension cabinet.

Install the RF jumpers and E1 cables

Feed the power to the two cabinets using the same method as that for a single
cabinet

Installation Note
Besides installing the equipotential cable between the two cabinets, install a
grounding cable for each cabinet
Install two bases for the cabinets in combined mode
The power cable of each cabinet in combined mode is independent. The
installation of the input power cable is the same as that for a single cabinet.
The power cables inside the cabinet are installed before delivery
The routing and connection of the E1 cable and RF jumper are the same as
those for a single cabinet
The cabinet installed with the BBU acts as the basic cabinet, and the other as
the extension cabinet
