QUESTION 1 [15 marks]

(a) 50.0 g of N2O4 is introduced into an evacuated 2.00 L vessel and allowed to come to
equilibrium with its decomposition product, N2O4(g) 2NO2(g).
For this reaction Kc = 0.133 at 273 K.

(i) Calculate the value of Kp for the reaction above. [2 marks]


(ii) Calculate the mass of N2O4 in the final equilibrium mixture. [5 marks]

(a)A wooden boat discovered just south of the Great Pyramid in Egypt has a carbon-14/ carbon-
12 ratio that is 72.5% of that found in living organisms. How old is the boat? Half-life for
C-14 is 5730 yr. [5 marks]

(a) Rank the following in order of decreasing surface tension at a given temperature, and
explain your ranking in term of intermolecular force. [2 marks]

chloride is dissolved in 5.00 mL of water at 100 oC? [5 marks]
