How vets can get freebies, discounts

Today is Veterans Day, a
day set aside to honor those
who served in the U.S. mil-
itary and to remember the
sacrifices they made.
L ocal and chain busi-
nesses have special offers
for veterans today. Many of
the deals are at participat-
ing locations only. Be sure to
call ahead to make sure chain
restaurants or businesses in
your location are offering
the discounts. Offers require
a valid military ID or proof of
service.

Office, 2326 James St., Syr-
acuse, is again offering free
dental services for veterans.
The office is normally closed
on a Friday but is offering
tooth extractions, fillings or
cleanings to veterans on a
first-come, first-served basis
beginning at 7 a.m. The last
patient will be taken between
3:15 and 3:30 p.m.
The service is not open to
active military, who already
receive dental services. Vet-
erans should bring a VA ID
card or a drivers license that
shows they are a veteran.
Since 2015, the Rosamond
Gifford Zoo offers free admis-
sion every day for vets and
active military personnel.
The discount applies to their
spouse and up to three fam-
ily members.
The Dinosaur Bar-B-Que
has been running a Pour
one Forward promotion
encouraging patrons to buy
a Boston Lager for a veteran.
Veterans may receive a free
beer on Veterans Day for as
long as supplies last.
The Military Wallet has com-
plied a list of chain restaurant
and retailers who are offering
discounts to veterans.
Applebees is offering a free
meal to military veterans and
active-duty service members
on Veterans Day. All current
and former military personnel
will also receive a $5 coupon
for additional food and bever-
age offerings or for a later time.

select breakfast, lunch, and

Charge: baby hurt
A Clay man has been
charged with assaulting
and seriously injuring his
baby daughter.
Brian Wilson, 40, of
4028 Bonstead Road, was
arrested Wednesday and
charged with assaulting
his 9-month-old daughter,
said Sgt. Jon Seeber, of the
Onondaga County Sheriffs
Office. The baby is in criti-
cal condition.
Wilson assaulted his
daughter at home, Seeber
said. When the girl started
to show signs of distress
Monday, Wilson brought
his baby to Strong Memo-
rial Hospital in Rochester,
Seeber said.
Doctors discovered she
had severe bleeding in
her brain and other inju-
ries, Seeber said. The hos-
pitals staff notified child
protective services work-
ers, who notified the sher-
iffs office.
Due to a criminal record,
Wilson is being held in the
Onondaga County Justice
Center without bail, Seeber
said. Wilson is due back in
court on Monday.

Fatal crash
A 25-year-old Seneca
County woman was killed
Wednesday night when her
car went off a road and hit
several trees, according to
Tompkins County Sheriffs
Office.
Tamila Rae Creedon of
Lodi was driving north on
Podunk Road in the Town
of Ulysses when her car
went off the east side of the
road, deputies said.
The sheriffs office,
which received a call about
the crash at 11:23 p.m.
Wednesday, found a blue
2006 Subaru in a wooded
area south of Swamp Col-
lege Road, deputies said.
Creedon, the only per-
son in the car, was pro-
nounced dead at the scene,
deputies said.
The cause of the acci-
dent is still under inves-
tigation by the Tompkins
County Sheriffs Office and
the New York State Police
Accident Reconstruction
Unit.
