THE CONSTITUTION OF OFFA DESCENDANT UNION

PREAMBLE

The Offa descendant union of shall be concerned with the economic, social,
educational and cultural progress of Offa town, and shall not allowed political
party considerations or influence to interfere with the affairs of the union. The
union shall not be used by any person or group of persons to achieve a political
end. The constitution of the union shall be binding on the Branches and
members. Members are equal to one another.

OFFA DESCENDANT UNION

CONSTITUTION

1. This constitution may be cited as the constitution of the Offa descendant


union and shall be deemed to have come into effect as from the 1st day of
January 2005.

2. DEFINITIONS:-

i. The union means the Offa descendant union formed 13th October,
1935 and shall have it head quarter in Offa. The union shall have
Branches throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria and overseas.

ii. “Member” means every male or female indigene of Offa and his
descendants who may join the union is registered.

iii. “Female member” shall include every female non-indigene of Offa


married to a male indigene of Offa who may join the union is
registered.

iv. “Dishonesty” means any act done with the intention of causing a
wrongful gain to oneself or another or of causing wrongful loss to
the union.

v. “Misconduct” means any behaviour tending to tarnish the good


name of the union or bring it to ridicule.

vi. “Treachery” means any act or omission tending to show the dear as
unreliable.

vii. “Officers” shall mean the officers of the union.

viii. “Secretariat of the union” shall include the administrative


headquarters in Offa and union Branched where established.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE UNION SHALL BE:-


i. To work for the development of Offa and seek the
improvement of her welfare in every legitimate way.

ii. To foster the spirit of comradeship and friendly association


among the descendants of Offa.

iii. To link together in one strong union, the various Offa


descendants union Branches and associations through-out
Nigeria and overseas.

iv. To preserve and improve the culture and tradition of Offa

v. To provide facilities for the attainment of the above


mentioned objectives.

MOTO

3. The motto of the union is shall be “Pro Patria” (For our Father-Land’ “ FUN
ILE BABA WA”)

4. MEMBERSHIP AND CESSATION OF MEMBERSHIP.

Membership of the union shall be open to the following people.

i. Both male and female of indigenes of Offa.

ii. Female Non-indigene married to Offa male Indigene

iii. Any such becomes member after he/she should have signed a
membership form and paid a registration fee a may be prescribed
by the Branch to which he/she may wish to belong.

iv. Membership shall automatically cease where annual dues for two
years lie in arrears. The Branch executive in its discretion may after
allowing time for payments of such arrears in full reinstate such
membership.

v. Each member shall also pay his/her Branch an annual due as may
prescribed by the union from time to time.

vi. A Branch may order its members to pay levy or monthly


subscriptions for any specific purpose.

vii. Members who pay their dues regularly shall be entitled to all the
privilege of membership e.g. right to speak at meeting and right to
vote and to be voted for. A member who is in arrears for one year or
more shall lose these privileges.

viii. Any member who is found of misconduct disloyalty, treachery, or


any other conduct deemed to be inimical or unbecoming of a
member shall be disciplined. The executive committee of the
Branch shall decide what action or actions constitute misconduct,
disloyalty, and treachery, and its discussion shall be final. When the
Branch executive decides to suspend any member the general
secretary shall be informed immediately. No member shall be
deprived of his/her membership without a hearing and a resolution
of the union’s executive committee and the approval by the annual
conference.

ix. Any member infringing or wilfully violating any of the provisions of


this consttition shall be dealt with by the branch executive
committee and the general secretary shall be informed
immediately.

x. Any member who is aggrieved with the suspension order of a


branch executive shall within 3 months from the effective date of
the suspension order appeal against such order to the unions
executive committee whose decision is final.
