FOREWORD

This manual is guide to the implementation of 5S (Good Housekeeping) in


the workplace.
We would like to maintain safe, orderly and clean environment. We
hope that doing so will further improve goodwill with our internal and
external clients.

The mission of the Notre Dame of Marbel University is capsulized in the three
words; CHARACTER, COMPETENCE and CULTURE in HARMONY. As a Catholic
University inspired by Marist tradition, NDMU offers an approach to education

Objectives of the 5S Manual

1.To communicate the 5S and quality


organization policy.
2.To put in the place a systematic way of
organizing the workplace.
3.To continuously seek and set standards of a
clean, orderly, safe, and waste less workplace.
Responsibilities of the 5S Committee

Chairman
1.Guarantees that the organization system and
policies are implemented.
2.Ensures action plans are carried out and
performed.
3.Plans out 5S programs and activities.
Secretary
1.Assists the Chairman in the 5S Program
implementation.
2.Keeps all 5S records.
3.Coordinates meetings and special sessions
with the 5S committees and teams.
Planning and Documentation Committee
1.Responsible for putting together the 5S
Manual.
2.Documents all 5S activities.
Education and Promotion Committee
1.Responsible for the 5S training of all the
personnel.
Monitoring and Auditing Committee
1.Monitors and implementation of plans and
programs based on the agreed rules and
standards.
2.Conducts annual evaluation from the
monitoring results.
3.Assesses the results of the monitoring.
4.Gives recognition to the Best 5S
implementors.
WHAT IS 5S?
First S- Seiri
Seiri means to sort and take out unnecessary
items and dispose them accordingly. By
disposing wastes and irrelevant items, working
will be easier with no obstacles and no need to
take care of unnecessary items.

Second S- Seition
Seiton is to arrange the workplace
systematically by putting the necessary items
in good and proper order.
Third S- Seiso
Seiso is to clean the workplace thoroughly to
keep it safe and to prevent work errors,
sickness, and accidents.

Fourth S- Seiketsu
Seiketsu means to maintain a high standard of
housekeeping and highly productive working
environment.
