exam?
Provided that you have to start from scratch.
Would like to get an opinion even though it varies in person to person. In my case it took so
many days to finish some basic NCERT's. Wondering how people manage their precious time?
Thanks in advance and all the very best :)

some people work hard same as others but not in right direction.
Story no 2
One day we have to irrigate our fields. This day I have a 400 horse power pump water and
you have 4 horse power water pump. Now I irrigate a same amount of field in 5 hours you
and your machine takes a whole day still dose not complete the irrigation. Now you decided
to run the pump all night and on the next day your pump succumb to fire and heat.
For many candidates life is very light, no struggle, always cozy and comfortable, and
somehow or other way they never put themselves on test.
Conclusion? They can not develop competence in their whole life. They never know what are
they capable of ? Suppose suddenly they like something fancy (IAS) for which hard work is
the only key. What happen to them ? ..perhaps ...succumb to fire and heat if want to achieve
before its latency period.
Think if our mother never let ourselves walk free because of fear that we will
fall and keep ourselves always in her lap. Will we ever learn how to walk.
How to develop a 400 HP guts, liver, mind, IQ ? Put your body and mind to test, see what
can you do. Toil hard as much as you can. Push your limits everyday. Crawl for that 1 marks
which is impossible to achieve. It is easy to reach to 99 from 30 marks. It is hard to gain that
1 mark.
Some people out there clear the CSE even after doing job while some.....
So you see how some people sincerly hard work for one day that they get ill, and JUNTA
says bechara padhte padhte beemar pad gaya. Koi coffee bana k pila deta isko to aaram
ho jaata :D

Some time you have to work a little extra hard to achieve things. Hard work combined with
positive attitude (never give up attitude) will make your dreams come true.

Studying 16 hours for one day cannot be called sincerity but studying 8 hours daily with full
dedication and interest is. I have seen So many people who really work hard for this exam
but they don't put their heart along with brain in their preparation. This is what leads to
failure.
We are not programmed machines.. we cannot just study a lot and become Ias. We have to
balance the things.
We gotta put whole hearted efforts. We gotta enjoy this journey.
Another major reason for failure is the fear of failure.
'By being fearful, you are attracting failure' . These are not the exact words but I read this
quote in some book of Paulo Coelho.
So... Realise your capabilities, work on your limitations and stay motivated!

Definitely yes! Because there is no limit to the human race :) but in order to reach your goal
you will have to give it all you got . You may not get there in your first try but remember if u
believe you can do there s nothing and nobody that can stop you . So I would suggest you to
do the following .
1. Talk to yourself. Hain confidence and belief that you can achieve and keep telling yourself
every now and then. Because this will get registered in you subconscious mind( positive
thinking is always a plus point)
2. You should have full information about the exam , marks and everything .
3. Pick the best books.
4. Start studying.
5. Stay focused.
6. Do not give up.

If you want a measure on "how hard should I/anybody work to crack civil services" then
sadly there is no tangible measuring parameter. But on the brighter side I can tell you what
it takes and what the exam actually demands from the candidates.
Get discipline into your life ( I am still working on it!). Have a time schedule and
follow it religiously.
Give yourself the hope and confidence of cracking it before you commence the
preparation.
I wouldn't recommend any number of hours but personally I feel 4 hours is a
must.
Your routine must include: healthy food, regular breaks, adequate sleep.
Once you start preparation and look at previous question papers you will
understand what time schedule and strategy will suit you.
Take care that you are not toooo relaxed because it leads to discrepancies in
your preparation. A sense of fear and tension must be present for this look at the
number of applicants and selected candidates every year, it will send chills
through your spines.
At last, I feel no one on this earth would be a better advisor than yourself when it comes to
CSE because it is a unique exam which tests you as an individual not like a sheep in the
flock.

I believe in KARMA. The more sincere you are with your efforts, you will be able to
perform accordingly. Even till now, what you consider yourself average , its just theresult
of effort-sincerity-performance combination. (One consider himself/herself average,
above average or below average based on his performance.)
[If one consider himself/herself an average one, he/she may have developed serious
inferiority complex, he/she need to overcome that.]
Now, particularly for CSE, one need to find a genuine reason why you want achieve this
feat. Think about it? (After that no one going to stop you.**)
{* Do consider Hemanth Kumar Sirs answer, thats just another side of the picture.
As my mentor say,
THE PLACE YOU DESERVE WILL BE RESERVE FOR YOU.
ALL THE BEST !!!

That is chance, you have and everyone else has, to clear this examination. Just 0.001%
More than 99% of the people who take up this exam fail to clear it. Only the top 1% get into
the rank list. But don't get daunted by the numbers, they are just numbers. Out of all the
aspirants, there will be hardly 20003000 serious aspirants who will be competing to get
into that merit list. So, your competition is with them only.
It doesn't matter if you are intelligent or average, this exam doesn't ask you about your past
credentials. But now you have to that dedication and zeal to crack the examination. There
are hundreds of examples who were average and have done it in the past.
This exam requires a man with limited knowledge. BUT limited knowledge of everything. He
must be knowing something of everything.

there is no certain method to test whether one can crack UPSC or not.
but deciding whether to take up UPSC or not should come after self analysis.
ask yourself
what do you want to be for the next forty years of life??
what are your priorities?
if you are priority is to lead a luxurious and comfortable life with bmws at your disposal
then UPSC is not for you.(even though if you are corrupt you canmot show your filthy
income and the life of a civils servant is hectic till end of your career.
if after all your calculations, you arrive at a decision that - yes, UPSC can be a good career
for me (iam telling all this because you'll loose motivation in time of preparation if you don't
have a strong will to clear this), then start analyzing yourself from the exam point of view.
1)see some previous prelims papers try to solve them(you will score less but there comes a
feeling that it can be cleared).
2)see some sample mains answers from INSIGHTS in comment section andanswer a few on
the matters you knoe to know whether you an write well.
3)see some interviews of successful candidates, observe how they achieved that place of a
topper.
before a year they are at same stage as you are-analysing themselves.
they sorted it out, prepared well and cracked it.
there is nothing that is impossible but your effort makes difference(i am not talking BS, its
true if you sit at home watching tv nothing happens but if you cut down tv and start working
miracles happen). to crack this exam one should atleast devote 4 hours a day for reading
entire year. are you up for it?? ask yourself.
thank for A2A.
hope this helps. all the best.

The Indian civil service exam has been conducted annually since 1853 and it is interesting to
note that though the british ruled us, their civil service exam is modelled on ours which only
was introduced in 1870's!
So, since the job guarantees unbelievable social mobility, prestige and power to mould
national policy, these are highly coveted and attract the brightest and most hardworking
aspirants. The examination per se is not that difficult; the fact that those aspiring for it are
incredibily prepared makes success in this a tough nut to crack!
You need decent, regular and consistent efforts to be able to give yourself a fair chance. To
quantify this into how many attempts or hours or days is a fool's game.

Please read current affairs and give it first preference. This is the second time I saw only
current affairs topics in prelims.
Then you read for the mains. First for prelims be ready with more current affairs.
Don't worry deep about CSAT. It is more easy if you know some logical items.

Once you doubt yourself, it's all over. As a human being you have unlimited potential,
do not ever doubt on that. You can do anything but not everything. First of all decide
if UPSC is the one. If you are willing to make sacrifices for it. It might take everything
you got. So once you make the decision, do not look back. Necessity is the mother of
invention. You will definitely find a way to do it. It will be your unique way!

IAS is one of the biggest competitive exam.it require amazing knowledge of academic and of
general life.Calculation and reasoning is the main part of it.
and as per me this all comes from best studies. So this will be hard for you.
1. Do you get less marks? If yes, This is no criteria on the basis of which one should
decide his aim.
2. Do you not find studies interesting? If yes, then if you want to become an ias
officer you should develop some interest. Coz this is a very harsh journey and
you will lose hope at some point or another. Only interest can goad you to start
studying again.
3. Do you spend very less time studying? Then there is a problem to be solved. You
can study for less duration at a stretch but then take a break and start again.
This is not an exam where you study at the last day and score.
4. Are you afraid to work hard? If yes, you have to work hard to achieve anything
good in life. Either you can put in your effort now and lead a simple life in the
future or you can lead a simple life today and not study but then you will have to
work hard for the rest of your life.
My belief is that everyone is equally intelligent and thus the one who is weak in some way is
only due to the fact that he leads life in a certain way that is deteriorating his capabilities.

Like any plant, growth of the Chinese Bamboo Tree requires nurturing through water, fertile
soil, and sunshine.
In its first year though, we see no visible signs of growth in spite of providing all of these
things.
Our patience is tested, and we begin to wonder if our efforts caring for and watering the tree
will ever be rewarded. We start to doubt ourselves and question the value of our efforts.
Inevitably, we contemplate quitting.
The Chinese Bamboo Tree grows 80 feet tall in just six weeks!
But think for a moment, does the Chinese Bamboo Tree really grow 80 feet in six weeks?
Did the Chinese Bamboo Tree lie dormant for four years only to grow exponentially in the
fifth?
Or, was the little tree growing underground, developing a root system strong enough to
support its potential for outward growth in the fifth year and beyond?
The answer is (of course) obvious. Had the tree not developed a strong unseen foundation it
could not have sustained its life as it grew. The same principle is true for people.
People, who patiently toil towards worthwhile dreams and goals, building strong character
while overcoming adversity and challenge, grow the strong internal foundation to handle
success. Meanwhile get-rich-quickers and lottery winners usually are unable to sustain
unearned sudden wealth. They havent become the person they need to be to support such
success.
And had the Chinese Bamboo Tree farmer dug up his little seed every year to see if it was
growing, he would have stunted the trees growth. In other words, the actions caused by self-
doubt wouldve halted the miracle from ever taking shape and cause him to go backwards.
You and I are the same. It takes faith to work while you wait. It takes belief in yourself to
keep going. It takes confidence to trust that you always get paid for how hard you work
sometimes now, often times later, always eventually.
Success is always slower than we want but its worth it. The only questions are how bad do
you want it? And how long are you willing to work for it?
Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid of only standing still.

Most of the aspirants cracking IAS or preparing for it are not sure if they are strong in
studies or not .
Lets accept you were weak in studies got low grades . So you know what you were , now
since you have dreamt of IAS , all this while when you knew that you were weak . There's
something that tell you that you can do it , so going by your description means you were not
weak , you just were not upto mark - but then lets answer a few questions ?
