SUMMARY AND DISCUSSION

A family is any group of people in a society that works harmoniously towards the

achievements of certain goals. In a community, nothings more profound than family because

certain traits and characteristics that an individual possessed in order for a society to be

productive are conceived here. Sometimes, certain hindrances serve as blockage for this goal

to be attained. One specific type of this obstacle are diseases and nothings more prominent in

a family than Tuberculosis, a communicable disease that could ultimately spread in a family

when being neglect.

Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by bacteria (Mycobacterium

tuberculosis) that most often affect the lungs (WHO). It is mainly acquired

by inhalation of infectious droplets containing viable tubercle bacilli.

Active TB possesses signs and symptoms such as cough with sputum and

blood at times, chest pains, weakness, weight loss, fever and night

sweats. Tuberculosis continues to be a world dilemma. Although

treatments and medications are being given, it still claims lots of lives and

more people still suffers from TB.

Philippines is no stranger to Tuberculosis at all. With 290,000 victims

are being diagnosed with Tuberculosis each year for the last 15 years, it is

no doubt the disease still serves as a hindrance for ordinary Filipinos and

the country alike.

The researchers, conducting this study entitled Tuberculosis: The

Patient and Family Members Perceptions have focused on the

disease because it is still dominant in their city. They have also given

emphasis towards the involvement of family members on the TB-

diagnosed patient. They conducted this study with the goal of informing

the public,
