Business Analyst

Additional General Comments

Shell Trading is the principal trading and shipping business within Shell. Shell
Trading integrates a global portfolio of crude oil, refined products, natural gas,
electrical power and chemicals. Based in the UK, US, Canada, Singapore, The
Netherlands, Japan, Barbados, United Arab Emirates, The Philippines and Russia
and with over 2000 employees, we can trade volumes of about 14 million barrels
of oil equivalent per day. We also provide marine expertise to over 40 operating
units and manage a fleet of around 56 gas and oil tankers and trade 45 million
megawatt hours of power quarterly.

Position description Purpose

The Shell Trading IT Applications organization is structured into 3 key Portfolios:


CPO (Crude, Products & Operations) ; Gas & Power; and Enterprise Applications
(common to all portfolios e.g. SAP).

This position provides Business Analysis expertise to deliver regional projects


within the CPO portfolio delivered out of Bangalore, in accordance with Industry
Best Practice and the Project Delivery Framework.

Position description Accountabilities

As Business Analyst you will have the following responsibilities:

Project Delivery
Delivering on multiple tactical projects within the CPO Portfolio.
Gathering and documenting business and functional requirements documented
unambiguously to a high standard.
Working as part of multi-location based teams and liaising with staff from other
Shell locations (including vendors).
Delivering all necessary project outputs - compliant with Shell Trading and Shell
Project Delivery Framework assurance standards. Any experience of Agile or
Edge based methodologies would be a bonus.
Working closely with business focal points, Project Managers, and Application
Team Leads to ensure successful project delivery.

Coordination & Communication


Communicating with team members and project stakeholders to ensure
complete clarity of solution plan.
Coordinate with Business Analyst colleagues to ensure alignment of
methodology and sharing of best practices.
Plan, arrange and control meetings, workshops and relations with client/user
staff during system investigations and throughout subsequent development
work.
Highlighting issues and risks as necessary without delay to the Project Manager
and/or Team Lead.
Arrange, prepare for and conduct meetings with and presentations to a wide
variety of audiences with differing levels of technical understanding,
demonstrating consistently high qualities of communication and persuasive
skills.

System Design

. Work with solutions architects and technical leads to ensure that designs take
full account of specified requirements and constraints.
Assesses software packages on their ability to meet all or parts of specified
requirements and advises colleagues and management on their technical
suitability.
Co-ordinate and manage the investigation of corporate data requirements,
documenting them according to the required standards utilising the prescribed
methods and tools.

Business Process Design


Investigate and describe current business processes; identify the organisational
structure undertaking and supporting current and future business activities.

Documentation & Standards


Ensure all work is documented using the selected standards, methods and
tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
Arrange, prepare for and conduct meetings ensuring full and accurate records
are produced and kept.
Advise on appropriate documentation formats and documentation methodology
to satisfy project requirements.

Assurance/Business Analyst Skill Pool Development


Provide quality assurance on project deliverables to promote consistency in the
application of Shell Project Delivery Framework standards.
Mentor other less experienced colleagues to further develop their Business
Analyst skills.
Participate and champion Business Analyst skill pool development and practice
forums.
Select, in consultation with more senior management as required, appropriate
design standards, methods and tools and ensures they are applied effectively.

Staff Management Responsibilities


The position has no direct staff reports.
Position description Dimensions

The Business Analyst will work as part of the CPO Team.


Successfully delivering business analysis/solutions on multiple projects each
typically $200k- $10m range, and 5 to 20 FTEs range, ranging from 6 months to
multiple years in duration.
The Business Analyst will report to the respective Project Manager on the
projects to which they are assigned.

Position description - Special Challenges

. Balancing short-term operational needs versus strategic long-term re-


platforming initiative.

. Working on projects of varying scope and complexity. Leadership and influence


over Business representatives and IT staff to ensure required IT Project
management practices and framework are understood and followed.

. Engagement with stakeholders with little time to provide information given the
nature of the trading environment.

Candidate should be a self-starter able to take on deliverables, engage others


as necessary, and handle them as appropriate with limited direction from project
management team.
