Description of how to implement in the class: Microsoft Word can be used in a variety of ways. In
this case, students will be given a template of an opinion article in a newspaper. Students will be able
to write an opinion piece on a political issue from environmental policy , to gun control, and even
abortion. Students will include evidence to support their opinion as well as use two pictures to help
illustrate their opinion. Students will share their work with others to promote discussion.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): Microsoft Word easily fits under LoTi Four. The
technology in the lesson is central to the content, but it also allows the students to create their own
opinions and support it with evidence and pictures. Students are also assuming adult roles by
analyzing adult issues, and the results of these analyses will certainly be unpredictable. This activity
covers meaningful work and will have the opportunity to share their work with their peers.
Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *: Students will have to create
a heading for the name of the paper, the date, title of the article, and the name of the author.
Students will write an opinion piece within the area provided, and insert appropriate pictures to
support their view.
Other comments about your proposed spreadsheet/graph/chart activity: These opinion articles
can easily be shared through a variety of forms. Either digitally or as a hard copy, students can
present their articles to peers and others as they present their opinions.
