CALL PROCESSING IN OCB 283-AN OVERVIEW

- Sri S.P. SRINIVASAN, Sr. SDE Faculty Member, RTTC CHENNAI

0.0 OCB 283 stands for ORGANE DE COMMANDE B2 VERSION 8300/8301

PROCESSOR developed from OCB 181 by CIT ALCHATEL France deployed widely in
India. This article provides an overview of call processing in OCB 283 exchange:

1.0: The system can process calls from Analogue subs and ISDN digital sub calls. The
subscriber rack is defined as CSNL or CSND ( Concentrator subscriber Numerique Local
or Distant) depending on its location from switching matrix (SMX). Subscribers are
connected to line cards in concentrators CNL or CNE, each concentrator capable of
equipping 256 subscribers. The concentrators are connected to control unit known as
UCN through internal network links- LRI.. The control unit of CSN is connected to
switching matrix thro PCM links known as LR. The signaling protocol adopted from UT
in concentrator to control logic is HDLC and from control unit CCS 7 signalling carries
call processing messages to PU PE ( user part equipment part)which formats CCS 7
messages as token ring messages for circulation of the packets of token to control units
in SMC ( Main control unit). As in E10 B exchanges, preanalysis and analysis take place
in SMC units .

2.0 Brief description of messages:

DEC message: OFF HOOK event- Contains ADUT(1-16)/Terminal No.0-

15/EVS ( Start of event)
- TABAS card to SVCUT message on HDLC format
- SVCUT has TS ( TIMESLOT)- CN ( concentrator) correspondence table
- Free TS to SMX is processed by SVC 7 coupler board and provides this
information in CSN context reference.
- CSN reference has information to setup/supervise/break communication

When sub instrument goes offhook, the change in state is detected by

UT( TERMINAL UNIT), The microprocessor prepares DEC message containing
UT address(1 to 16) Terminal number or equipment number( 0-15). DEC message
is sent on TS 16 of LRI between CN and UCN in HDLC format. HDLC handler
in UCN receives this message. Since UCN has TS-CN Correspondence it finds
out CN from which DEC is received. Each CN has dedicated TS on LRI 0 and
LRI 1
CSN memory has future reference data containing 1) concentrator Number 2) UT
AND Equipment No. 3) TS- LR between CSN and SMX 4) TS- LRI between UT
and UCN.
2.1 BCL Message:.
Sender: UCN
Receiver: CN
Purpose : continuity check
The loop continuity between CN and UCN is tested by BCL message. BCL
message is received in microprocessor of CN and it extends a software loop. The
UCN then completes the test by sending tone samples in the TS.
3.0 NOVAP message:

- Reception of new call message by PUPE and MR-

- NOVAP message is from UCN thro SMX to PUPE on TS 16 of LR 0
and LR 1.
- NOVAP is a CCS 7 message
- NOVAP contains CSN reference /CN No./UT no./Terminal no./ TS-
LR No./signaling Link selected .

PUPE has TS- CSN correspondence table and finds UR number of CSN sending
NOVAP.
3.1 OUNAP message:

-
PUPE converts NOVAP in CCS 7 format into token ring protocol on
MAS ring.
- MR receives OUNAP and allots a free register for handling this call.
The OUNAP message information is wriiten in the allotted Register.
4.0 DCURAR message

-UR- LR to SMX LRX correspondence is stored in FURM file of

MQ( marker)
- DCURAR is a request by MR to give this information
- This message is exchanged over MIS token ring
- SMX-LRX information is necessary for dial tone connection
- RCURAR is the reply message by MQ to MR for SMX LRX-UR
reference
4.1 DDIDR message;

- CALLER DISCRIMINATION
- MR requests TR ( Translator) information as to whether
DTMF/Incoming only
- TR replies from translator file regarding eligibility characteristics of
UT thro RDIDR message to MR ( MULTI REGISTER)

- MR orders RGF connection for DTMF instrument for recognition of

digits.

5.0 OCXGT message:

- connection order to connect dial tone is given by MR to MLCOM

(LOGICAL MACHINE COMMUTATOR) on SMXLRX-TS
- OCXGT contains SMX-LRX and TS number allotted to the calling
subscriber.
- MLCOM connects calling sub TS with dialtone TS.

6.0 ACNAP message:

- MR acknowledgement to CSN.
- Intimates CSN of the register supervising the call set up
- ACNAP is processed by SVC7
- Contains MR/CSN reference/Signalling link selected/CSN-CN-UT-
Tml. No/ TS-LR no.
- CSN removes loop extended during continuity check
- MR reference is stored by CSN in TMUC board.

Calling sub gets Dial Tone.

7.0 DIGIT RECEPTION:

CHIUN message:

- Microprocessor in CSN detects the beginning of 1st pulse. UT sends

CNI message to UCN, which has the digit recognized. The
concentrator retransmits the unique digit message as CHIUN to PUPE.
- CHIUN contains CSN reference/MR reference/ signaling link
selected/binary code of the digit dialed.

OABCO message:

-
PUPE converts CHIUN as OABCO over MAS ring to MR.
MR orders MLCOM to disconnect DT, When MR receives the 1st digit
-
by ODXGT message.
- Earlier DT was disconnected at UT and now at SMX side
7.1 PREANALYSIS to determine the type of call:

DPREA Message
- purpose : to determine local/national/international/special service call
- message from MR to TR
- TR consults preanalysis files and sends RPREA to MR
- This indicates type of call and number of digits required for analysis
- ( e.g all digits in case of local call)
- DIANA for MR to TR for analysis
- RIANA TR to MR for charge info/called UT/ terminal number

8.0 RIANA
- Contains called sub address in the form of eqpt No/CSN/CN/UT/Tml
No/charging info to be used by TX when called sub answers.
- MR sends OCOAB message to PUPE
- PUPE converts it into DIREC message and sends it to connected CSN
- .

9.0 TEST for free/busy condition and ringing:

TESEQ message:

- Having known the address of called sub, MR sends OCOAB message

to PUPE for testing
- PUPE sends TESEQ message to CSN of the called sub
- This contains CALLED SUB CSN/CN/UT/Tml no./MR reference/
signaling link selected

ACTIVITY BY CSN:

-CSN reserves memory area for supervision of the call

-CSN checks the status of sub as free or busy
-If free,
Searches free TS on LRI (CN-UCN) and free TS on LR(UCN-
SMX)
- Checks continuity between CN and UCN by BCL message to
concerned UT and sending tone.
- PRICE message to connect ringing current to called sub
- TESPO message test positive message to PUPE and PUPE sends
OABCO message to MR indicating that called sub is free and ringing
current has been fed.
10.0 RBT connection:

- OCXGT message
- MR upon receiving TESPO orders RBT connection from MLCOM to
calling sub throOCXGT
- MLCOM connects RBT to allotted TS of calling sub
- MR gets UR-LR --- SMX-LRX for called sub TS from MQ

MR now waits for answer by called Subscriber

11.0 connection of calling sub and called sub and charging:

- UT detects called sub answering

- Microprocessor orders ringing current disconnection to the called sub
- UCN sends EVABO message to PUPE
- PUPE converts to OABCO and sends to MR
- OABCO has MR reference/CSN reference/called sub answering
event/signaling link selected.
ACTIVITIES OF MR/TX :

- orders MLCOM to disconnect RBT( DCGXT)

- sends DCXT message to MQ for connecting calling TS to called TS.
- MQ orders MLCOM and replies to MQ
- MQ sends RCXT to MR confirming the connection
- DTAXCDR message
- MR sends charge calling sub message to TX indicating equipment
number/charginginfor/
- TX keeps charge account of sub
- TX REFERS FILES PTX AND CTX files
- As per active tariff time, TX charges the call
- RTAXCDR is sent to MR as response
- MR sends OCOAB message to PUPE for call supervision
- PUPE sends SUTRA message to CSN
- CSN sends CNXP message to UT
- UT removes loop extended for continuity test

Conversation is through
11.1 SUB STATUS SUPERVISION:

- CSN detects ON HOOK
