The three-day meet, beginning on Jan. 2, will have

sessions on modern agriculture ventures
Kozhikode:Withtheobjectiveofshowcasingsuccessfulfarmingmodelsandagricultureventures,theAgriculture
DepartmentwillhostathreedayKisanMeetatKoottalidainKotturgramapanchayatfromJanuary2.Exhibitions,
technicalsessionsonmodernfarmingventures,andfarmorientedcontestswilladdcolourtothemeet,whichwill
beopenedbyAgricultureMinisterV.S.SunilKumar.

PurushanKadalundi,MLA,thechiefpatronoftheorganisingcommittee,saidhereonFridaythatthefairwouldbe
partofthePrimeMinistersKrishiSanjayeeYojana(PMKSY),andthatitwouldhelpindisseminatingthelatest
agrirelatedinformationtothepublic.Balusseryconstituencywasselectedtohostthemeettakingintoaccountits
popularisationofsmallscaleagriculturefarms,hesaid.

M.Nandini,PrincipalAgricultureOfficerandDirectorofAgricultureTechnologyManagementAgency(ATMA),
saidtheKisanMeetwasaimedatcelebratingthedistrictsnotableachievementsinagricultureandeffortsby
farmerstoimplementinnovativeprogrammesoftheAgricultureDepartment.In2016,wemanagedtoexpand
farmingtoaround800hectaresoffallowland,whichisaproudachievement,sheexplained.

V.Prathibha,presidentofBalusseryblockpanchayatandoneofthechiefcoordinatorsoftheprogramme,saidthe
meetwouldofferfarmersanopportunitytoattendfivetechnicalsessionsonmajorareasoffarminginthemodern
era.Costeffectivefarmingventures,seasonalcultivation,andorganicfarmingwillbeamongthetopicsthatwillbe
discussedduringthesessions,shesaid.

Asmanyas18stalls,allhighlightingsuccessfulfarmingventuresandeffortsofsuccessfulentrepreneurs,willbeset
upatthevenue.DistrictKudumbasreeMissionandKrishiVigyanKendratoowillbepartofthethreedayevent.

Circular unveils governments mischievous game plan,

says FFA
TIRUPATI:Sugarcanefarmersareupinarmsagainstthegovernmentforitsmovetosellthecooperativefactories
tobenefitprivateplayers.

ThefarmersmadeknowntheirdispleasureattheStatelevelallpartymeetingconductedhereonThursdayunderthe
bannerofFederationofFarmersAssociations(FFA).

ItwasacircularfromtheDirectorofSugarandCaneCommissionerthatthrewlightonthegovernmentsintentions.

ThecircularsenttoChittoorSugars,SriVenkateswaraSugars(Tirupati),CuddapahCooperativeSugars,Kovur
CooperativeSugars(Nellore),AnakapalleCooperativeSugars,andNannapaneniVenkatRaoSugars(Tenali)
requiredthefactoriestodisclosedetailssuchastheextentoftheirlandedproperty,registrationandmarketvalue,
numberofemployees(onregularrollsandoncontract),andthelikelyfinancialoutgoiftheyweretobegivena
goldenhandshakethroughvoluntaryretirement.

Thegovernmenthassetitseyesonlandedpropertyofthefactories.Thecircularrevealsitsmischievousgame
plan,allegedFFAStatepresidentMangatiGopalReddy.

WhiletheundividedStatehad18sugarfactoriesinthecooperativesector,itcamedownto11postbifurcation.
With2530lakhtonnes,Chittoordistrictranksfirstintermsofannualcaneproduction.Thisispreciselythereason
forthepresenceofsixsugarfactoriesinthedistricttwointhecooperativeandfourinprivatesectors.

Thoughtheprivateplayersmakeprofits,thecooperativefactoriesalwaysendupinlosses,saidLokSattaState
generalsecretaryK.Balasubramanyam.

Thegovernmentwillpayheedonlyifallcanegrowersjoinhands,saidK.KumarReddyandA.RamaNaidu,
ChittoordistrictsecretariesoftheCPI(M)andCPIrespectively.

FarmerleadersowingtheirallegiancetotheYSRCongressChakrapaniReddyandRajaratnamReddycalledthe
moveantifarmer.

FFAformerpresidentG.V.JayachandraChowdarysaidthatthemountinglossesweremanmade.

Thelosseswouldremainthesame,irrespectiveofwhetherafactoryrunsornot.Ifitruns,itsaveslives,saidN.
NagiReddy,acanegrowerandformerChiefAccountsOfficerofS.V.Sugars.

Heallegedthatthemutuallyacceptablefinancialpackageworkedoutbyhimwasputincoldstorage.

Focus on increasing income of farmers through various
activities
CollectorSNatarajanhasunveiledthePotentialLinkedCreditPlan(PLP)ofRs3465.43crorefor201718for
agricultureandalliedactivities,nonfarmandotherprioritysectorsbythenationalisedandprivatebanksinthe
district.

ReleasingthePLPestimate,whichwas10percenthigherthanlastyearsplan,atDistrictLevelReviewCommittee
MeetinghereonTuesday,headvisedtheofficialstoexpeditetheprocessofoveralldevelopmentofagricultureand
alliedactivities.

HesaidthePLPwiththethemeofdoublingoffarmersincomeby2022haslaidemphasisonincreasingthe
incomeoffarmersthroughanimalhusbandry,inlandfisheries,beekeepingandnonfarmactivities.

AspartoftheabovePLP,anareadevelopmentschemeondairyactivitieswouldbeimplementedinfourblocksat
anestimatedprojectionofRs.80.15crore,hesaidaddingthebankswouldgiveimportancetosmallandmarginal
farmersandhelpthemtoearnassuredincome.

S.Mathiazhagan,DistrictDevelopmentManager,NABARD,saidfarmerswouldbeencouragedtodoubletheir
incomebyraisingtheproductivityandtakeupdiversifiedfarmactivitieswithspecialfocusonproducinghighvalue
agricultureproducts.

B.UmaMaheshwari,CRM,IndianOverseasBank,Thoothukudi,receivedthefirstcopyofPLP.Subbiah,Regional
Manager,PandyanGramaBank,ThoothukudiRegion,andK.S.SureshBapu,LeadBankManager,IOB,were
present.

NABADsaidthatthecreditrequirementofshorttermcroploanwasestimatedatRs.1446.42croreandtermloan
foralliedsectorsatRs.610.85crore.Theestimateformedium,smallandmediumenterprisesectorstoodat
Rs.162.33crore,itsaid.

AspertherevisedguidelinesonprioritysectorlendingbyReserveBankofIndia,creditpotentialforagriculture
infrastructure,foodandagroprocessingsector,exportcredit,education,housing,renewableenergy,involvingbank
credit,wasestimatedatRs.77.75crore,Rs.83.56crore,Rs21crore,Rs.360crore,Rs372.00crore,andRs28.87
crorerespectively,itsaid.

SugarcanegrowersattachedtotheTirupatturCooperativeSugarMillshaveurgedtheStategovernmenttofixthe
priceforsugarcaneatRs.4,000atonne.

WiththeTamilNadugovernmentfixingtheStateAdvisedPrice(SAP)forsugarcaneatRs.2,850atonneforthe
year20162017,theTirupatturSugarMillCaneGrowersUnioncondemnedthegovernmentforfixingthesame
priceaslastyear.

TheCentretoohadcontinueditslastyearsFairandRemunerativePrice.Thishaddisappointedsugarcanefarmers.

MembersoftheunionpointedoutthatthesugarcaneproductionhadbeenaffectedintheState,andtheareaof
cultivationhadbeendwindling.Thefarmerswerebearingthecostoffertilizers,pesticides,whilethewagesfor
agriculturallabourershadincreased.Thecostforcuttingcanehadgoneup.

TheStategovernment,forthelastsevenyears,hadbeenfixingthepriceforcanewithoutconveningatripartite
meeting,theunionsaid.
