A closed narrative leaves the reader satisfied with the
ending and is an effective way to end a series of films and a good way to sum up any questions. 2012 is a film about a flood that has the potential to wipe out everyone on earth. The story follows a man who is split up from his son and daughter. The flood comes after the man manages to find his two children and save them from dying.
Whereas an open narrative leaves the viewers with more
questions than answers and is a way to get people to watch the sequels or to keep them thinking about the film. For example the Italian Job leaves the film with the group on the edge of the cliff after a crash trying to save the gold that they solved which leaves the viewers wondering if the managed to get the gold or fall to their death.
A multi-strand narrative is where there are multiple story
lines that are separate at the start and then intertwine to conclude the film. This type of narrative is a good way to keep the viewers interested in the film. For example Pulp fiction follows three different people thats story gets mixed together.
A point of view (POV) film is where the story is told from
one of the characters view of the story. Troll hunter is a film about group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter. This is told from the point of view of one of the students.
Task 2 Plot devices
A plot twist is when the film changes unexpectedly to change the expected outcome of the film. For example Fight Club has a plot twist when we find out that the one of the two main characters is just a figment of the others imagination and has not been there the entire film.
MacGuffin is an object or device in the film, which is the
trigger for the main plot. For example in the Lord of the rings the ring is used as a macguffin to motivate the characters to go to mount doom.
Deus ex machina is an unexpected power or event saving
a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel. For example in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets harry is saved by a magic sword.
Red herring is a piece of information that is intentionally
misleading. For example in the da Vinci code bishop Aringarosa is portrayed as the mastermind but he is not.
In media res is when a film starts in the middle of an
important pointof the film. For example Raging Bull starts in 1964 as the hero, Jake LaMotto (De Niro) is rehearsing for a one-man show. The movie ends when Jake walks on stage to deliver the show. What happens in between is the stuff of Oscar-winning films. Through a series of amazing flashbacks, we get the story of how Jake became a pro boxer, married a woman he thought he loved, and lost everything along the way. This enables us to understand why he's an overweight loser at the end of the film doing stand-up for a living.

The film presents the Iraqi prisoners as an antagonist
because they are terrorists but because of the torture a lot of people admitted to the crimes anyway so they could be seen as innocent protagonists.
The film Boys of Abu Ghraib is a thriller, drama and a
war film. The film uses a dark and dingy Mise-en- scenewhich builds up tension and shows some of the realities of war and the life of a soldier. Boys of Abu Ghraib is set in an old iraqui prison, with blood on the walls and floor which shows the grim realities of war. The theme is a soldier following any orders he is given even the orders that breach human rights. This shows the ideology of the American dream and how it will be obtained at any cost. The main characters back story is shown to be an average life, which shows any person is able to commit atrosities if they are in certain situations.
The film stereyotypes all the people in the prison an guilty
terrorists even if they havent confessed. The story is told through the point of view of one of the soldiers who worked there. The film uses an iconic and determind character poses. Boys of Abu Ghraib uses a pov cinematography.
Task 4 generic conventions:

Special effects (SFX) are used
in films to create enhancing the visuals of the film to keep the watcher more interested. This picture shows a hole in the stomach which is not realy there.
Sound is used in films to help
create different felings and build up tension for the reader. This shows how sound is captured. Task 5 mise-en-secne: shawshank redemption In this scene the set is very bland with 2 people, brick walls and metal rails and bars. The 2 prisoners are wearing the same prison outfit and one is wearing a flat cap. Theire facial expression is very bland and stony faced to show the realities of prisons. The colours are very dull because they are grey, dark blue and black. The 2 actors are directly in the middle of the shot but looking away form the camera.
