The Gates of Paradise

Related by Abu Hurairah

The Prophet said :

“By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, the distance between two gates from the gates of
Paradise — or between the two sides of a Gate — is as the distance between Makkah
and Hijr, or as the distance between Makkah and Basrah.”
[ Bukhari and Muslim ]
Rasulullah said :
“You are the completion of 70 nations — the last of them and the most honourable of
them with Allah. And the distance between two gates of the gates of Paradise is the
travelling distance of 40 years;
years and a day will come upon it (i.e. that area) that it will be
overfilled.” [Ahmed]
Ahmed]

This shows how big the gates of Paradise are, the people will enter them in crowds and the
First one to enter Paradise will be our beloved Prophet , and Abu Bakr will be the
first of the people (from the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ) to enter paradise.

There are eight ( 8 ) doors of Jannah. Their names are as following:

1. Baab us-
us-Salaah:
Salaah Those Muslims who were punctual in observing their Salaah will
be granted entry through this door.
2. Baab ul-
ul-Jihad:
Jihad Those Muslims who participated in Jihad will be granted entry
through this door.
3. Baab us-
us-Sadaqah:
Sadaqah Those Muslims who frequently gave Sadaqah will be admitted
into Jannah through this door.
4. Baab ur-
ur-Rayyan:
Rayyan The Muslims who constantly observed the fast will be granted
entry through this door.
5. Baab ul-
ul-Hajj:
Hajj Those Muslims who observe their annual pilgrimage will be
admitted through this door.
6. Baab ul-
ul-Kaazimeenal Ghaiz Wal ‘Aafina ‘Anin Naas:
Naas This door is reserved for
those Muslims who suppress their anger and pardon others frequently.
7. Baab ul-
ul-Aiman:
Aiman This door is reserved for the entry of such Muslims who by
virtue of their faith are saved from reckoning and chastisement.
8. Baab uz-
uz-Zikr:
Zikr Those Muslims who excessively remembered Allah will be
admitted through this door.

The Levels of Paradise

There are 7 (seven) Paradises;

1st Paradise : Dar as
as-Salaam , “The Abode of Peace”
2nd Paradise : Dar al
al-Qarar , “The Abode of Constancy”
3rd Paradise : Dar ul-
ul-Khuld , “The Abode of Eternity”
4th Paradise : Jannat al-
al-Maawa , “The Sheltering Garden”
5th Paradise : Jannat al-
al-Naeem “The Garden of Beauty and Felicity”
6th Paradise : Jannat al-
al-Aden “The Garden of Eden”
7th Paradise : Jannat al-
al-Firdaws

Each of these Paradises have many levels, and the distance between each
level is like the distance between the heavens and the earth.
earth The highest of the
seven paradises is the Jannat al-Firdaus, and over it is the throne of Allah .
Whenever a person prays he should ask for Firdaus, as it is the highest level of
Paradise and in the Middle. It Is From Al-Firdaus That The Rivers Of Paradise Gush
Forth.
The levels in paradise have much difference in respect to their blessing, the
middle part of paradise is better than the outer paradise where the walls of
paradise are located. The more you go to the middle, the better it becomes, A
higher level paradise is better than the middle part of a lower level of paradise.

Prophet said ;
“Paradise is 100 levels; between each level and the next is the distance of 100 years.”
years
Ibn Affan said; “Like the distance between the heavens and the earth”, and the
Firdaus is the highest of them in degree, and from it the four rivers (of Paradise)
emerge. And the throne is above it. So when you ask Allah, ask Him for Al-Firdaus.”
Ahmad] , also related by At-
[Ahmad] At-Tirmidhee with a different chain of narrators.

When you think of the levels of paradise then think of a pyramid, there are
many stones at the base of it, as you go up towards the peak, the number of
stones decrease, and at the top, there is one stone, these stones can be taken as
the inhabitants of paradise, there are many people at the lowest level and this
number keeps on decreasing as you go up towards the higher levels of paradise
and at the top there is only one person…..
3
….AL-
AL-Waseelah is The Highest Level In Paradise which is a part of Jannat Al-
Firdaus; None Will Achieve It Except For The Messenger Of Allah

Ibn Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah said,

“Ask Allah to bestow upon me Al- Al-Waseelah,
Waseelah for no slave asks it for me in the
world, except that I will be an intercessor — or witness — for him on the Day of
Resurrection.”

Allah has also prepared 100 levels for the ones who fought in His Way i.e. the Martyrs.
The inmates of Paradise would see the inmates of the apartment over them just as
we see the shining planets which remain in the eastern and the western horizon
because of the superiority some have over others. The more you submit to Allah,
the higher level in paradise you will get, people will see the palaces of other
people in the horizon because of the difference in their status.

Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah said ;

“Verily, the people of Paradise will see from afar (those above them in ranking)
just as you see from afar — or see — the glistening star that is going away in the
horizon — that is due to the disparity in levels.” ….”
[Ahmad]
Ahmad]

The more you are pious, the better level you get, and remember, therein you shall
live forever, then why not prepare for Al-Firdaus.

Abu Hurairah related that the Prophet , said, "A caller will call out on the
Day of Resurrection: 'It is for you to live and never die; it is for you to be healthy
and never become ill; it is for you to remain young and never become old; and it
is for you to be in a state of bliss and delight without ever becoming miserable or
sad."'
[Ahmad]

Allah,, Grant us a place in Jannat Al

Oh Allah Al--Firdaus , Ameen

4
Vastness of Paradise

“And when you look there (in Paradise), you

you will see a delight (that cannot be
imagined), and a great dominion.
dominion.” ( Surat Al-
Al-Insan, 20)

Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah said :

“The dweller of Paradise who is least in ranking will look at a territory that is
2000 years (in distance). He will see its furthest point just as he sees its nearest
point. He will see his wives and his servants. And the best of them (dwellers of
Paradise) in ranking is one who will look at the countenance of Allah twice every
day.”
[Ahmad]
Ahmad], also related by At-At-Tirmidhee

This shows how vast Jannah is, if the person who is in the least ranking will
have a territory that is 2000
2000 (two
(two thousand) years in Distance,
Distance what will a person
have who is in a higher level? I think we are really underestimating it.

The Prophet said, “I know the person who will be the last to come out of the
(Hell) Fire, and the last to enter paradise. He will be a man who will come out of
the (Hell) Fire crawling, and Allah will say to him, ‘Go and enter Paradise.’ He
will go to it, but he will imagine that it had been filled, and then he will return
and say, ‘O Lord, I have found it full.’ Allah will say, ‘Go and enter Paradise, and
you will have what equals the world and ten times as much (or, you will have as
much as ten times the like of the world).’ On that, the man will say, Do you mock
at me (or laugh at me) though you are the King?” I saw Allah’s Apostle (while
saying that) smiling that his premolar teeth became visible. It is said that will be
the lowest in degree amongst the people of Paradise.

10 times the world (worldly

(worldly resources), for the last person to enter paradise.

He would get an equivalent of what a king from the kings of the earth had x 10 .

5
The last man to enter paradise will get a reward, which after receiving he
would say that he is the only one to get a reward like this and no one before him
has get it. What about the person living in Jannat Al-Firdaus? Can you imagine?

Q: What will a person who is in a higher level of paradise receive?

Ans. Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said,
“Allah said,: ‘I have prepared for my righteous slaves that which no eye
has seen, which no ear has heard, and which has not occurred to the heart of
any human being.”

The Pavilions and soil of Paradise

“Beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise).”

Paradise).”

(Surah At-
At-Tawba, 72)
72)

How would you feel when you enter paradise and see your house which is
bigger than any Metropolitan City, and is unimaginable luxurious ?

The Messenger of Allah said, :

“Verily, for the believer in Paradise there is a pavilion made of a single, hallow
pearl. Its length is 60 (sixty) miles. The believer has wives that he goes to, from
one to the other, yet they (the wives) do not see one another.”
Reported by Abu Moosa Al-Asharee
(Related by Bukhari and Muslim)
Muslim)

Ibn Abbas : “The pavilion is made from a hollow pearl. Its length is a
league, and its width is a league. And it has 1000 doors of gold. Around it are round
tents that are 50 leagues.”
Note : 1 league = 3 miles (about 5km long)

The Believers will live in it enjoying the blessings for eternity, your youth will never
pass away. We don’t know what has been hidden for us for our eyes as reward.
How can you deny the favours of your Lord, when its stones are pearls, and the soil
is pure musk (best kind of perfume). The Ground of paradise will be of white colour,
The Soil of Paradise has been described in hadith as “white flour”. Musk will also be
used as a Milaat (cement used between stones in building) of the Palaces of
paradise !!

In the Arabic language, Milaat refers to the cement that is used between the
two stems (or pillars) of a building; the wall is plastered with it. Perhaps the soil in
some places of Paradise is musk (best kind of perfume), and in other places of
Paradise it is saffron. And Allah knows best.
7
Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah said, :
“The space in Paradise equal to the measure of one of your whips is better than
the sky and the earth.”
[Ahmad]
Ahmad]

If just a small part of paradise is better than the world and all it contains, then
how will the rest of paradise and all its pleasures be?

He also said ;
“I was made to enter Paradise, and in it are stones of pearls, and its soil is musk (best
kind of perfume).”
[Related by Bukhari and Muslim]
Muslim]

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said,

“The earth of Paradise is white; its wide plane consists of rocks of Al-Kaafoor, and
it is surrounded by musk, which are like sand dunes. In it are steady rivers. Therein
the people of Paradise gather and become acquainted with one another. And then
Allah will send the wind of mercy, which will stir up a good fragrance upon them.
A man will return to his wife, and will have increased in beauty and fragrance. She
will say to him, ‘You left me, and I was pleased with you, and I am now even
more pleased with you.”

According to a hadith in Sahih Bukhari, the fragrance of paradise can be perceived

from a distance of 40 years !!

Jaabir related that the Messenger of Allah said,

“The fragrance of Paradise is found from the distance of 1000 years. By Allah, the
‘Aaq (one who is undutiful to his parents) and the one who breaks off ties of
relations will not smell it.”

The Palaces in Paradise

How would you feel when you enter paradise and see a palace which has been
built for you, its bricks are precious, one is of gold, the other is of silver, and the
cement to join them is musk. In This Palace you will live enjoying the blessings for
eternity, your youth will never pass away.

Rasulullah was once asked about this verse :

“Beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise).”

(Surah At-
At-Tawba, 72)

He , said, “A castle made of pearls, and in that castle there are 70 abodes made of
rubies. In each abode there are 70 houses made of green emeralds. In each house
there is a bed, and upon every bed there are 70 mattresses, from every colour. And
upon every mattress there is a wife from the Hoor (fair maidens of Paradise, who
have wide, beautiful eyes). In every house there are 70 tables, and upon every table
there are 70 colours of food. In every house there are 70 female servants.

Allah created the Garden (Eden, in paradise) with his own hand, a stone of white
pearl, a stone of ruby, and a stone of green aquamarine. Its Milaat (Cement used
between stones in the construction of buildings) is musk (Best kind of perfume) and
its pebbles are pearls and ruby, and its grass is saffron.

9
Prophet Muhammad said: “Verily, there are rooms in Paradise that have no
suspensions above them and no pillars underneath them.”
It was said, “0 Messenger of Allah, and how its inhabitants will enter them?”
He said, “They will enter them in the likeness of birds.”
It was said, “0 Messenger of Allah, who are they for?” He said, “For the people
of diseases, hunger, and affliction.”
[Reported
Reported by Anas bin Malik ]

You can see what the people, who were oppressed, who were afflicted by
diseases and hunger, will receive in paradise!

This world is only a temporary place to live for your soul. The Worldly
Villas are marks of distinction, quality and wealth of this world. It’s sad to say that
only few people prepare for the Real life which is in the Hereafter, where they
shall live for eternity, where they shall sit on the real marks of distinction and
wealth and converse to their spouses and other Believers.
This real mark of distinction, power and wealth are the Thrones,
Thrones,

“gold-
gold-encrusted thrones”
thrones” (Surat al-
al-Waqi
Waqia, 15)

In such Palaces which are designed to provide the human spirit with the
greatest amount of pleasure possible. The mansions are designed and furnished
with the highest quality materials and the most harmonious colours, and feature
comfortable armchairs.

“Then which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?”

The Rivers of Paradise

“The description
description of Paradise which the Mutaqun (the pious) have been promised is
that in it are rivers of water the taste and smell of which are not changed; river of milk
of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine delicious to those who drink; and
riverso
riversof clarified honey (clear and pure) therein for them is every kind of fruit; and
and
forgiveness from their Lord”
Lord” (Surah Muhammad, 15)

The rivers of Paradise gush forth from a mountain of musk and these Rivers will
have pearls and rubies as their pebbles and their soil will be musk.

In Paradise there are 4 types of rivers ;

1. River of Wine : It should be known that this wine will NOT intoxicate the
people, because as we discussed earlier in this book, that in
paradise there no such thing like “impure” , the believers
would enjoy this pure blessing given by Allah . This
world is a prison for the believers ,and paradise for the
unbelievers. But in the hereafter the Believers would enjoy
the pleasures of wine.
2. River of Honey: Another River will be that of Honey, pure tasting Honey, in
the Qur’an, Allah has described as the Best eatable thing as
Honey. Its taste will never change.
3. River of Milk : Another River will be that of Milk. Its taste will never change.
4. River of Water : This river should not be compared to the worldly water.
Its water will be very tasty, Its soil will be musk and its pebbles
will be pearls and rubies.
11
Prophet Muhammad said;
“You think that the rivers of Paradise have borders in the ground? No, by Allah,
indeed, they are swimming on the surface of the ground. Its two sides are pearls,
its domes are pearls, and its perfume is musk (best kind of perfume) Al-Adhfar.” It
was said, “0 Messenger of Allah, and what is Al-Adhfar?” He said, “That which
has no mixture in it (i.e. pure).”

River Al-
Al-Kauthar

“Verily, We
We have granted
granted you (0 Muhammad ) Al-
Al-Kauthar (a river in Paradise)
(Surah Al-
Al-Kauthar, 1)

The River Al-Kauthar belongs to Rasullallah .

By studying on various Ahadith we come to know that some of this River’s
characteristics are :

• It’s a River that flows on the Surface of the ground.

• On its two sides, there are domes of pearls, without being roofed.
• Its soil is purer than musk and its water flows on pearls and rubies.
• Its pebbles are pearls and rubies.
• Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey.
• Its two sides are of gold and silver.
• Birds, whose necks are like Al-Bukhaatee (camels that have long necks)
come to drink from it.
• Its Vessels are in number like the stars.

Aisha said, : “Whoever would love to hear the flowing sound of the water of
Al-Kauthar, then he will not hear it with his eyes, but rather its sound is like the
sound that is heard when a person puts two of his fingers in his ears.”

The Tree
Trees of Paradise

“And the branches of fruit thereof will hang low within each”

Ibn Abbas said, “The roots of date palms in Paradise are of green emeralds.
And their branches are red gold. And their leaves are clothing for the people of
Paradise... Its fruits... are whiter than milk and purer than honey...”

In another narration, Ibn Abbas said :

“Az-Zil Al-Mamdood (The Shade Long-Extended)’ is a tree in Paradise on a trunk.
As for its distance, the diligent rider travels under its shade for 100 years,”
meaning all of its sides. He said, “The people of Paradise, the people of Al-Ghuraf
(the rooms), and others will come out and talk underneath its shade.” He said,
“Then some of them will desire, remembering the amusement of the world, and
then Allah will send a wind from Paradise, and He will shake that tree with every
amusement that was in the world.”

The above Hadith shows the vastness of paradise, the tree called Az-Zil Al-Mamdood
is so huge that a fast rider travels under its shade for 100 years without getting across
it. The roots of date palms in paradise are of green emeralds, the leaves of the trees
are clothing for the people of paradise. Their greenness is very severe.

Allah says :

“Dark green (in colou

r)” (Surah Ar-
Ar-Rahman, 64)

13
As mentioned earlier, the trees of paradise should not be compared to the trees of
this world. Paradise is what no mind has ever thought, no eye has seen, and no
ear has heard about. Paradise there will be no hurry as you will live for eternity
and you will have 80,000 servants. You might eat your favourite dish for several
weeks and there will be no excretion or urination, all will come out as sweat
which will be pure musk. The taste of the Foods will never change and you will
never become bored.

Q: How can I plant trees in Paradise in my territory?

Ans. Its very easy, you just read the beginning of the third kalima i.e.

Reading it will cause a Tree to be grown for you in paradise, which will belong
to you. Isn’t it great?, that you can grow thousands of Acres of Trees will
golden and silver trunks in your territory in Paradise!!!

The Two Gradens

Abu Bakr ibn Moosa Al-Ash’aree related from his father that the Messenger
of Allah said, “Two Gardens (in Paradise) are from gold, including their utensils
and that which is in them. And two Gardens are from silver, including their
utensils and that which is in them. And there is nothing between the people and
between them looking at their Lord except for the robe of Al-Kibriyaa (Grandeur
and Glory) on His Countenance in the Garden of ‘Adan (Eden).”
[Bukhaaree and Muslim]

In another narration, Abu Moosa Al-Ash’aree related that Rasulullah said:

“Two Gardens (in Paradise) are of gold for the Saabiqeen (those who are
foremost in the Islamic faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds in
the life of this world on the very first call for them to embrace Islam), and two
Gardens are of silver for the Ashaabul-Yameen (those on the Right, i.e., the pious
true believers of Islamic Monotheism).” [Related

(Surah Ar-

‘Abqareein are the richest, best, most beautiful mattresses. The Arabs were
addressed in terms of the good things they had with them. And in Paradise are
things that are greater and more magnificent than what a person can imagine,
things and delights of all categories.

The Greatest Pleasure of Paradise

The Greatest pleasure in paradise will be seeing your Lord .

The Messenger of Allah said, "Verily, you will see your Lord just as you see
this moon. You will not argue (or quarrel) over seeing Him, so if you are able,
consistently perform the prayer before the rising of the sun and before its setting."

They will even see their Lords (Allah) while they are on their raised thrones and
beds, just as one sees the moon in the world. They will also see Allah in a more
general and comprehensive gathering, which in duration, is like the days of the
week. The people of Paradise will gather in a vast valley, on white musk, and
there they will be honoured in proportion to their degrees.
degrees Some among them
will be sitting on pulpits made of light; others on pulpits made of gold; and yet
others will be sitting on other kinds of jewels and materials...
16
…Then tables of different kinds of foods and drinks will be placed before them —
food and drink that no eye has seen, that no ear has heard, and that has not
occurred to the heart of any human being. Then they will be anointed with different
kinds of perfume. They will be given such honors as had never crossed their minds.
Then Allah will appear to them, and He will address them one by one!!!
Allah-hu Akbar !!

The Horses of Paradise

A man asked the Messenger of Allah : “0 Messenger of Allah, are there horses
in Paradise?” He said, “Verily, when Allah admits you into Paradise, you will
not want to be carried in it on a horse, unless you are being carried on a horse
made of red rubies; it will fly with you in Paradise to wherever you wish (to go).”
[At-
[At-Tirmidhee]
Prophet Muhammad was once asked : ‘0 Messenger of Allah, I am a man who
loves horses, so are there horses in Paradise?”
The Messenger of Allah said, “By the One Who has my soul in His Hand, there
are horses in Paradise that are Haffaaf Murhafah (thin and light for flying); they
travel through the leaves of Paradise, so that those (who ride on them) visit
whatsoever (and whomsoever) they please.”

The Messenger of Allah said : “Verily, in Paradise there is a tree; from its top
and its bottom horses made of gold come out, horses that are saddled and bridled
with pearls and rubies. They neither urinate nor drop manure. They have wings,
and one stride of thefts is like the distance they can see before them. The dwellers
of Paradise will ride them, and will fly on them to wherever they please (to go).
Those below them in ranking will say, ‘By dint of what did your slaves reach all of
this honour? He will say to them, ‘They would pray in the night, while you were
sleeping; they would fast, while you were eating; they would spend (in charity),
while you were being stingy; they would fight (in the way of Allah), while you
were afraid.”

• The Horses of paradise are made of red rubies, gold (in another narration) ,
Allah knows best, and they will and have wings.
• They are Haffaaf Murhafah (thin and light for flying).
• They neither urinate nor drop dung.
• The Dwellers will sit on them and they will fly with them in paradise.

Sooq (Marketplace of Paradise)

Ali narrates that Rasulullah said, “ Verily, in Paradise there is a Marketplace,
but there occurs no buying or selling therein. Instead, there are only appearances
of men and women, and so if a man desires an appearance, he enters into it.”
[Tirmidhee
[Tirmidhee]
irmidhee]
Anas narrates that Rasulullah said, “Definitely, the inhabitants of paradise
will visit a market every Friday. A northerly wind will blow and it will spread
[goodness] upon their faces and clothes, causing them to increase in beauty. They
will then return to their wives after having become more beautiful than they were
before. Their wives will say to them, ‘We swear by Allah, you have definitely
increased in beauty.’ They will also say to their wives, ‘We swear by Allah, you
have also increased in beauty.”
[Sahih Muslim]
Muslim]

At any rate, it is taken to mean that men will only desire to enter into
appearances of men; similarly, women will only desire to enter into appearances
of women. And that is referring to one’s form, shape, outfit, clothing.

In the Hadith of Abu Hurairah in regards to the Sooq of Paradise:

“One of high attire will come and will meet one who is lower than him; the latter
will be very much pleased with the attire and form of the former, but he does not
finish speaking with him before he imagines that he is wearing better than him.
And that is because it is not suitable for anyone to grieve therein.”

18
The Tooba Tree

The Messenger of Allah said, “Verily, in Paradise there is a tree that is called
Tooba. If a good rider were made to travel in its shade, he would travel in it
for one hundred years. Its leaves are green emeralds and its flowers are yellow. Its
courtyard is find and thick silk. Its fruits are robes. Its secretion is ginger and honey.
Its valley is red rubies and green emeralds. Its soil is musk, and its grass is saffron,
which exudes fragrance without needing to be ignited. Rivers of Salsabeel gush
forth from its source, as well as wine. Its shade is a gathering place from the
gathering places of the dwellers of Paradise. They will be acquainted with it, and
all of them will talk in it.”
The people will gather at the tooba tree, and they will remember the amusement
of the world. Then Allah will send a wind from Paradise, and it will move that
tree with every kind of a musement that was in the world.
