with the latest in farming and ranching equipment and services
Billings, MT - February 16-18, 2017 will be the 41st year
of the Montana Agri-Trade Exposition (MATE), the largest
Agriculture Trade Show in the region.
The three-day event has consistently recorded attendance
of over 14,000 people. Over 500 booths display trusted
equipment and the latest technology for farming and ranch-
ing. Doors open at 10 a.m. every day, closing at 6 p.m.
Thursday and Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
Free tickets are available at First Interstate Banks, the
NILE office or at any of the vendor's locations. Without a
ticket admission costs $7. For the chance to win one of the
three grand prizes the back of tickets need to be filled out
and then placed in the drawing drums.
This year's grand prizes are a zero-turn lawn mower from
John Deere, hearing aid set from the Hearing Aid Institute,
and one ton of SweetPro tubs from Agri-Best Feeds.
MetraPark hosts the MATE, filling the approximate
125,000 square feet of the Montana Pavilion and Expo
Center with booths. Booths with products or services re-
lated to the home and or health can be found in the Mon-
tana Pavilion. Ag products and services fill the Expo Center,
as well as outside-weather permitting. Various food vendors
are scattered throughout the show.

Bulls are on display under the awning of the Expo Center
for the MATE Bull Pen Preview. Cattle producers bring in
bulls to sell and to promote their upcoming bull sales. More
pens than ever before were sold this year, making the Bull
Pen Preview a great opportunity to see some high quality
livestock.
Educational opportunities at the MATE come informally
and formally. Attendees can learn lots from vendors as they
browse the booths, or they can take notes during formal
presentations in the MATE Theater. Eight different classes
are scheduled over the course of Thursday and Friday.
Since 1976 the MATE has been held the third week of
February. The MATE is owned by the Northern Interna-
tional Livestock Exposition (NILE), a 501(c)5 non-profit,
established in 1967 that is dedicated to the promotion of
livestock, agriculture education, and respect of the western
tradition.

For many, lawn care can be a chore. Another line
item on the list of have-to-dos cutting into precious
time reserved for the list of want to dos. But for

The John Deere Z525E Zero Turn mower offers a
22HP V-twin engine, Tuf Torq TZT&-D dual Hy-
dro Drive train that allows for speeds ranging from
0-8.5 miles per hour forward and 0-4 miles per hour
in reverse. A typical riding mower travels between
3-4 miles per hour. Not only does the mower reduce
mowing time with its increased speed but also with
its ability to spin 180 degrees, essentially reducing the
number of passes required to mow a residential yard.
Other features include the adjustable twin lever drive
control that replaces the traditional steering wheel and
features easy to operate functionality for responsive di-
rection and speed control. The larger 22x9.50-10 drive
tires offer a smooth ride while providing increased
traction. The 525E also features a hand adjusted deck
height adjustable in increments, to ensure a precise
cut height and the 15 adjustable seat with arm rests
provides a comfortable operators platform. The 525E
is standard with the 48 side discharge deck.
The industry is transitioning to Zero Turn mow-
ers from tractor style mowers due to the speed and
maneuverability, said Yellowstone County Implement
Manager, Tim Schulz. John Deere has expanded
their lineup of residual zero turn mowers for 2017 to
offer a unit that will fit most anyones budget or needs
depending on the size of lawn or property being cared

New location for MATE Theater
improves educational opportunities
Billings, MT - The classroom-style MATE Theater moves to the Montana Pavil-
ion from the Expo Center for improved educational opportunities at the Montana
Agri-Trade Exposition, February 16-18, 2017.
The MATE (Montana Agri-Trade Exposition) brings thousands of vendors and
visitors to MetraPark every year to look at, and buy the latest in farm and ranch
equipment and services. It also offers opportunities to learn. The MATE Theater
meets the need to teach about dealing with issues and staying current.
With the growth in popularity of the MATE Theater, organizers decided to
move the location to allow for increased attendance, and more focused space. Pre-
viously, chairs were set up in a small room off of the far wall in the Expo Center
for speakers to share their knowledge. The cement surroundings and busy foot traf-
fic outside the room, without much separation made it hard to hear and cramped.
In an effort to facilitate better learning the MATE Theater will now be located
in the Montana Pavilion in the small bay. The new space should allow for easier
access and less distractions.
Approximately one hour long presentations fill the MATE Theater schedule over
the course of Thursday and Friday. The topics range from proper pesticide place-
ment to better beef breeding. This year eight different classes are offered;

Worker Protection Standard Establishment
Understanding Pesticide Labels Pesticide Applicator Rule Changes
Integrated Pest Management and Pesticide Carryover

This is a great chance to ask specific questions and get them answered on a
personal level. Experts from entities such as Montana State University (MSU)
Extension, and the Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) prepare pre-
sentations that they believe are going to be most pertinent to the audience. The
presenters lined up for 2017 are: Stephan Van Tassel (MDA Vertabrate Specialist),
Mat Walter (MSU Extension), Cecil Tharp (MSU Extension), Michael Brownell
(LiphaTech), Eric Clanton (MDA), Nikki Bailey (MSU Extension), and Steve Lack-
man (MSU Extension).

from Hearing Aid Institute
About 20% of all Americans, a whopping 48 million, suf-
fer from some degree of hearing loss. The two most com-
mon contributors are aging, and excessive noise exposure.
Activities such as shooting and noisy workplaces - mining,
auto repair, and factory work - are major contributors, but
so are less obvious activities such as mowing the lawn or
vacuuming.
The Hearing Loss Institute, the oldest hearing loss compa-
ny in Montana and largest in Montana and Wyoming today,
is dedicated to preventing and correcting hearing loss. As
such, they are this years sponsor of the Home and Health
Expo Grand Prize Giveaway a pair of top of the line cus-
tom NuEar brand hearing instruments valued at $7,000.
NuEar is the largest manufacturer of hearing instruments
in the United States and one of the largest in the world.
Their wide range of products includes hearing aids that fit
inside the ear, inside the ear canal and behind the ear. They
treat hearing loss and Tinnitus and they even manufacture a
product that connects directly to Apple products such as the
iPhone or iPad.
The Hearing Aid Institute will be offering Video Otoscope
exams at their Home and Health Expo booth #655 in the
Montana Pavilion where participants can view the inside of
their ear canals on a television screen. The Otoscope exam
is helpful for detecting excess wax buildup and potential
damage to the ear canal. There will also be a self-screening
machine on-hand where visitors to the booth may don
headphones and listen for pure tones presented by a techni-
cian. This summarized screening can provide feedback as
to whether the participant may be a candidate for a more
thorough exam. Complete exams are offered free of charge
by making an appointment at one of Hearing Aid Institutes
five local offices, or attending one a screening held in one of
nearly 30 Service Centers throughout Montana and Wyo-
ming, such as Miles City, Polson and Havre. The Hearing
Aid Institute even offers the privacy of in-home hearing
exams.
