I am writing this letter in recommendation of Alexis Thompson, who has served as a student
teacher working with me throughout the fall semester. Alexis willingly fulfilled the expectations
of this position and also consistently enhanced the services provided to the fifteen special needs
students assigned to my caseload.
In her role as a middle school Cross-Categorical student teacher, Lexi co-taught one reading
class and supported students during their regular education Language Arts, Math and Science
classes. Lexi also helped with curriculum development, modifications of materials and
assessments, IEP development and recording of data for progress monitoring purposes. Lexi
exhibited excellent follow through with these requirements and frequently took work home to
finish if she did not complete it during her scheduled hours. She established an excellent rapport
with the students as well as with the other adults in the various classrooms.
OKeeffe Middle School has a very diverse student population. The students in the classrooms
that Lexi supported had a wide variety of special educational needs, ethnic backgrounds, and
socio-economic levels. Several of the special education students had significant needs with
various disabilities, including Autism, Behavioral Disabilities, Learning Disabilities and students
with Other Health Impairments. Lexi was very skilled at relating to each student and adapting the
curriculum and/or assessments to meet each students individual needs.
Each of the classrooms that Lexi supported had several different adults working in the room
supporting the students. Lexi collaborated with these other adults in a professional manner and
commanded the respect of these other staff.
I enjoyed working with Alexis Thompson and highly recommend her for any Special Education
position available. I believe that Alexiss intelligence, reliability and compassion would make
her an asset to any program.
