1 Overview
This is a description of the connector panels and the related external cables used in the
first-delivery Flexi BSC and in the upgrade-delivery Flexi BSC and in the TCSM3i.
The cabling connecting the equipment to the environment is treated from the point of
view of the Flexi BSC and TCSM3i, indicating how and where the external wiring is con-
nected to.
1.1 Use of product names

Acronyms related to Flexi BSC are presented in the following tables.
BSC = Base Station Controller, a general term for all BSC network elements

2 Connector panel types in the Flexi BSC

The site (outgoing external) cables enter the network element system through the con-
nector panels. Most of the cables are terminated at the connector panels mounted in the
cabling cabinet or at the equipment cabinet top (small CPETx, CPRJ45-A). Only the
external STM-1/OC-3 trunk cabling and GigE Ethernet interface cabling is routed
through the grounding outlets (CPGO).
The panels are connected by internal cabling through the cartridge back plane to the
rear connectors of the Exchange Terminal plug-in unit ET16 (E1, T1, JT1), Clock and
Tone Generator unit CL3TG-UA and the Hardware Alarm Terminal HWAT-B/-A or
straight to the front connectors of SDH/SONET Exchange Terminal ETS2 and the LAN
Switch plug-in units ESB24-A/ESB26.
The small CPETx panels used at the BSCC cabinet top are optional and ordered sepa-
rately. The small and the large CPETx panels used in the optional cabling cabinet are
delivered with the cabinet. Three cabling cabinet options are available:
Cabling cabinet 2 PCMs / cable (connector panels CPETS-G and CPETS-H)
Cabling cabinet 1 PCM / cable (connector panels CPETS-E and CPETS-F)
Cabling cabinet coaxial PCMs (connector panels CPETC-E and CPETC-F)
Note that in Flexi BSC first deliveries, there is an additional small CPETx connector
panel at the cabling cabinet top.
The panels mounted in the cabling cabinets are listed in the table below.

(CPETS-G and CPETS-H)
3.1 Connector panels CPETS-G and CPETS-H with RJ45 con-

nectors
The small CPETx connector panel (CPETS-G) and the large CPETx connector panel
(CPETS-H) are used for reducing site cabling as two external PCM lines are connected
from each RJ45 connector. The panels fulfil E1 requirements. They can also be used for
T1 interface if ANSI-specific line protection is not required.
The cabling of the CPETS-G panels is described in the cabling lists delivered in the Site
Documents binder. The CPETS-G is installed at the BSCC cabinet top (one panel) or in
the optional cabling cabinet (a total of four small panels, because there are three small
panels in the cabinet and an additional small panel at the cabling cabinet top in first
deliveries). The installation of the connector panel at the equipment cabinet top requires
the use of Roof adapter (RACP) and the installation of the connector panel at the cabling
cabinet top in first deliveries requires the use of Roof adapter 2 (RACP2).

3.3 TCSM3i
Two installation options of the third-generation Transcoder Submultiplexer are available:
the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option and the TCSM3i for combined
BSC/TCSM installation option. The TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option always
has a cabling cabinet, but the TCSM3i for combined BSC/TCSM installation option does
not have a cabling cabinet.
3.3.1 TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option

In the TCSM3i for stand-alone installation option, the cabling cabinet is always mounted
to the TCSA cabinet.
E1 (PCM) balanced trunk cable panel (CPETS-H)

Two large balanced CPETS-H connector panels are used in the cabling cabinet
mounted to the TCSA cabinet.

4.1 Connector panels CPETS-E and CPETS-F with RJ45 con-

nectors
The small CPETS-E connector panel and the large CPETS-F connector panels are used
for E1/T1 (PCM) balanced trunk cables.
Cabling of the CPETS-E panels is described in the cabling lists delivered in the Site Doc-
uments binder. The CPETS-E is installed at the BSCC cabinet top (one panel) or in the
optional cabling cabinet (a total of four small panels, because there are three small

5.1 Connector panels CPETC-E and CPETC-F with D37 con-

The small CPETC-E connector panel and the large CPETC-F connector panels are
used for E1 (PCM) unbalanced trunk cables.
Cabling of the CPETC-E panels is described in the cabling lists delivered in the Site Doc-
uments binder. The CPETC-E is installed at the BSCC cabinet top (one panel) or in the
optional cabling cabinet (a total of four small panels, because there are three small

The CPRJ45-A panel is located in the middle hole at the BSCC cabinet top and it can
be installed without the RACP adapter. The CPRJ45-A provides interfaces for 100
Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s LAN uplinks, LPTs and VDUs, incoming external synchronisation
signals, and inputs and outputs for external alarms.

inputs and one (22) for external alarm outputs. There is also one D9 connector (23) for
voltage and current-controlled alarm inputs. The CPRJ45-A is located in the middle hole

Current-controlled external alarm input signals are connected from MDF to CPRJ45-A
panel by using the CYV cable.
One length of the cable is available (ID code presented): 20 m (C72239).
Six external current-controlled alarm inputs can be connected to the Flexi BSC by using
the CYV cable.
Connections to external alarm unit EXAU-A

A special lamp panel (External Alarm Unit EXAU-A) can be employed for the indication
of alarms.
Indicator lights have been connected to six incoming alarms of EXAU-A. In the EXAU-
A, a buzzer that can be connected to any alarm is available.
Using CNDE cable, the EXAU-A can be directly connected to D25-connector 22 of the
CPRJ45-A panel or through the digital distribution frame (DDF or cross connection) that
connects the alarm cables coming from the network element. When the alarms are
routed through the digital distribution frame (DDF) the CNDE cable is cut and the wires
are connected to the cross connection.
The complete CNDE cable is available in lengths 5, 10, 20 and 50 m. The maximum
distance between the EXAU-A panel and the network element equipment it is connected
to is 200 m (650ft.).
General requirements for external alarm cable CNDE are presented in the following
table.

The EXAU-A has also a second D25 connector which makes is possible to chain several
alarm units so that the alarms can be displayed on more than one unit. See figure Instal-
lation of the EXAU-A; mounting on the wall, cabling, and setting the buzzer jumpers.

6.3 VDU/LPT peripheral cabling (LPT/VDU interfaces)

The CPRJ45-A panel accommodates six RJ45 connectors for the following VDU and
LPT interfaces:
port 16 for LPT 0 (V.24)
port 17 for VDU 0 (V.24)
ports 24 and 25 for VDU1 (V.24) and VDU2 (V.24)
ports 26 and 27 for VDU2 (V.11) and LPT2 (V.11).
Each connector provides access to one interface of visual display unit / PC or printer
provided by the OMU (SERO-B). Pin configurations for connectors (16 and 17, and 24
to 27) providing the VDU/LPT interfaces are listed in Table V.24/V.11 cable connector
in the CPRJ45-A panel, pin configuration.

The VDU can be connected to the CPRJ45-A panel by using the CNM cable, which is a
CNI-type cable provided with an RJ45 connector and a D9 connector. The LPT printer
can be connected to the CPRJ45-A panel using the CNP cable, which is a CNI-type
cable provided with an RJ45 connector and a D25 connector. See the following figure.

SYMM1) for balanced (symmetric) synchronisation interfaces, and two BNC connectors
(20 ASYMM0 and 28 ASYMM1) for coaxial, unbalanced interfaces.
