4. PROCEDURES

4.1 Material handling & storage

4.1.1 Receiving / Handling of materials
All materials for this project shall be inspected upon arrival on the
fabrication yard. Visual, dimensional and traceability shall be the
main focal point of the inspection, assuring that the purchased
products are free from any unwanted surface defect and bears the
same traceability code indicated on the material test certificate issued
by the supplier. Also, delivered quantities shall be compared on the
LPO and the delivery note to guarantee full compliance of the supplier
on the agreed order.
Materials having visual defects that exceeded the tolerable level of
acceptance shall be returned to the supplier for replacement.
Handling / unloading of material shall be in accordance with the
requirements stated on Annex B, section B.1 of ISO-14692-4.

4.1.2 Storage of materials

Store pipes on flat timber to facilitate placement and removal of lifting
slings around the pipe.
Ensure the area is relatively flat and free of obstructions (i.e. rocks,
pebbles) or any debris that pose potential damage to the pipe.
If required the pipes has to be stacked, it is best to stack on flat timber
supports (min. width of 75mm) at quarter point with chocks. If
available, use the original shipping dunnage.
All pipes should be chocked to prevent rolling in high winds.
Rubber ring gaskets, for the seal lock joints, should be stored in the
shade in their original packing and should not be exposed to sunlight
except during the pipe joining. Also, the gaskets must be protected
from exposure to greases and oils which are petroleum derivatives
and from solvents and other harmful substances.
Gasket lubricant should be carefully stored to prevent damage.
Partially used buckets should be resealed to prevent contamination of
the lubricant. If temperatures during installation are below 5C,
gaskets and lubricants should be sheltered until use.

4.2 Installation
4.2.1 Preparation of joining surfaces
Remove the end protection from the male pipe end. Loosen and
remove dirt and debris from the grooves using compressed air, a
clean, dry rag or by brushing it of by soft-bristled paint brush.
Clean the grooves and sealing surfaces of the female end or coupling.
Sand off any projections or rough edges on the entry ramps which
compress the O-ring during insertion.
Brush or rub a layer of lubricant into the O-ring groove of the male
end and all inside the surfaces of the female end or coupling. Apply
lubricant only when you are ready to complete the joint. Keep
lubricated surfaces clean and free of sand and dirt, as contamination is
likely to interfere with joining and sealing. Proper lubrication of the O-
ring and joint surfaces is important to avoid cutting the O-ring or
rolling it out of place during assembly.
Important: Apply lubricant only when you are ready to
complete the joint!
4.2.2 O-Ring placement
Lubricate entire surface of the O-ring and slip it into the first groove
on the male end. Distribute the O-ring evenly in the groove by slipping
a screwdriver under it, sliding the tool around the joint.
Important: Do not gouge or abrade the O-ring! A sound O-ring
is the key to a watertight joint.

4.2.3 Pipe male / spigot insertion

Place the band clamps on either side of the joint.
Rotate the new pipe, ensuring the keyhole(s) are in proper position
for driving the key(s) for the next joint.
Align the male end against the female end or coupling already in place
for a straight concentric entry. Proper alignment is essential for
joining.
Deflect the joint to conform to the actual horizontal and vertical
alignment of the trench only after the joint is fully assembled in the
straight position.
Connect the ratchet winches to pulling rings attached to the band
clamps on either side of the pipe. It is often convenient to place one
band clamp just behind the female end or coupling and the other,
about 1.5mm from the male end.
Tighten the winches evenly on both sides so that the O-ring enters
smoothly and without being pushed or rolled out of its groove.

Insert the male end until the scribed line is about 6mm from the
leading edge of the female end or coupling. To reduce spillage you
may elect to use rubber pads under the band clamps.
Straightness of entry adds significantly to the ease of assembly. Sight
along the pipe and carefully observe concentricity and uniformity of
entry.

4.2.4 Driving the keys

Place lubricated locking keys into the insertion holes, and slowly close
the joint until the keys slip into the key ways.
Check straightness of the entry again by sighting along the pipe and by
aligning the scribe mark on the male end with the edge of the female
end or coupling.
Use a hammer or mallet to drive the locking keys through the
insertion holes and into the keyways until the leading end can be seen
in the insertion hole and approximately 75 to 100 mm remain
projecting.
Important: Drive the key only until you can see its leading end
through the insertion hole. If the key is driven too far, heat may
elongate it and cause it to stick, making later removal
impossible. Fill key holes with caulking compound to prevent
intrusion of sand and dirt wich ay make later key removal
difficult.

4.2.5 Positioning and aligning the joined pipe

After driving the keys deflect the joint to fit the hanger supports or
trench bottom. With the pipe fully supported in its final position,
release the lifting straps: for buried pipe in sag curves, it may be
necessary to leave the lead lifting strap in position to align the next
joint during assembly.
To avoid excessive movement and bending at turns and branches
during the hydrostatic test, pull straight sections of joined pipe
forward as assembly in progresses, using a ratchet winch or other
means to remove play in the joints.
Additional coat may be applied for areas where the paint applied
appear to be thin, with hint of substrate still visible. Touch-points
shall be painted when the materials shall be removed from the area.

5. Documentation

5.1 Responsibility & documentation

Material test certificates and Certificate of conformity shall be

compiled for record purpose and traceability use.
Test reports shall be generated after a successful completion of hydro-
static testing of the pipe(s).

6. HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL MEASURES

6.1 General Safety Requirements

All personnel involved shall use necessary PPE as required and Site supervisor
shall ensure regular inspection of workers PPE.
It is mandatory for all to undergo / attend the specific HSE trainings that focuses
on actual condition of the activity to be executed.
The workers shall be made aware of safety requirements related to this activity
through daily, weekly and monthly toolbox and safety talks. The JSA shall be
used to the site supervisor as the basis of conducting his daily Tool Box Talks.
All equipment, plant, machineries and tools that shall be utilized in the job shall
be kept in good working condition.
Access and good housekeeping should be maintained in all erection areas.
Working area shall be barricaded with Warning Tape.
Safety watch shall be present from start up to the completion of the
installation/erection work, to prevent unauthorized entry onto the work area
and provide immediate response assistance in case of emergency.
