1.AcidDyes:Acidmediaisrequiredfor
applicationofthisdye. Thesubstantivity
ofthisdyeismaximumtowoolandleast

adverse effect on silk in terms of
appearance.Thedyehasgoodfastnessto
light.Thesedyes,whicharesodiumsalts
of organic acids just as sulphuric acid,
havepoorwashingfastnessproperty.
2.BasicDyes:Thesedyesarethesaltsof
the coloured basic groups containing
aminogroup(NH2orNR2).Modified
nylon and polyesters can be dyed with
thesedyes.

3.Direct Dyeing of Fabrics:These are
theDyeswhichcanbeapplieddirectlyto
the fabrics from an aqueous solution.
These are most useful for fabrics which
canformhydrogenbondswiththeDyeing
ofFabrics.Thustheyareusedfordyeing
cotton,wool,silk,rayon,nylon.

4.InsolubleDyeingofFabrics:Theseare
Insoluble Dyeing of Fabrics compounds
produced in site on the surface of the
fabric i.e. why they are also called as
ingrain Dyeing of Fabrics. The reaction
involves the coupling between napthal
absorbedonthesurfaceofthefabricwith
the diazonium salt. As there is only
surfaceabsorption,thecolourisnotvery

5.Vat Dyeing of Fabrics: These are
insolubleDyeingofFabricswhicharefirst
reducedtoacolourlessforminalargevat
with a reducing agent such as alkaline
sodiumhyposulphiteandthenappliedto
thefabrics.
e.g.Indigo.
6.Fibre Reactive Dyeing of Fabrics:
These are the Dyeing of Fabrics which
containareactivegroupwhichcombines
directly with the hydroxyl or the amino
groupofthefibre.Becauseofthechemical
reactionthecolourisfastandhasavery
longlife.Cotton,woolorsilkcanbedyed
withthistypeofDyeingofFabrics.
7.Disperse Dyeing of Fabrics: These
DyesarewatersolubleDyeingofFabrics
which are dispersed in suitable reagents
beforeapplicationtothesyntheticfibres.
