This study aims to determine the effect of Luffa to filter particulate matter released by

the exhaust pipe of jeepney.

Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

1. How effective does Luffa to filter particulate matter in an exhaust pipe of a jeepney?
2. Is there a significant difference between Petroleum jelly in filter paper with Luffa and

filter paper with petroleum jelly without Luffa to filter particulate matter in an exhaust

pipe of a jeepney?

1. There is a significant difference between petroleum jelly in filter paper with Luffa and

petroleum jelly in filter paper without luffa to filter particulate matter in an exhaust

pipe of a jeepney?
2. There is no significant difference between petroleum jelly in filter paper with Luffa

and petroleum jelly in filter paper without luffa to filter particulate matter in an exhaust

pipe of a jeepney.

This study is significant to the following:

1. Commuters. In terms of preventing some disease like lung cancer asthma and

some related diseases.

2. Student. To learn more about air pollution causing diseases.

3. Plants. To have a healthy community.

4. Animals. As human needs fresh air, animals needed it too.

The Scope of this Study covers the quality of air in F. Pimentel Avenue during weekdays.

Observing the quality air in F. Pimentel Avenue from January to March.

Researcher have chosen two group design to differentiate petroleum jelly in filter paper

without luffa filter from petroleum jelly in filter paper with luffa filter. The control group is on

the second column petroleum jelly in filter paper with luffa filter. The experimental group on

the first column which is petroleum jelly in filter paper without luffa filter respectively. The
researcher wants to know the ability of luffa to filter particulate matter released in exhaust

pipe of jeepney.

Procedures:

Mature patola fruit will be harvested from Catherine Babalas garden. The estimated time

that the patola was already dry is after 1 month and 2 weeks. To get the Luffa, we need to

remove the surface of the patola. The Luffa filter consist of a filter holder and the connection

member for attachment to the exhaust pipe, the object is to provide an exhaust filter which

is simple to mount and dismount, which is self-supporting. The filter holder consists of a

double-sided open sleeve, both ends of which are designed with coupling. To differentiate

the amount of particulate matter released by jeepney, we are comparing petroleum jelly in

filter paper with Luffa and petroleum jelly in filter paper without Luffa. The jeepney will start

the engine continuously for 10 minutes but the jeepney will not run. The objective is to know

how petroleum jelly in filter paper with Luffa can get particulate matter released by jeepney.

Install the Luffa filter to the exhaust pipe in the same way, the jeepney will start continuously

for 10 minutes but it will not run. The objective is to know the percentage of particulate

matter gathered to the jeepney.

3. To test if Luffa is an effective air filtering device similar to other filtering device in

the market.
4. To provide alternative products to buyers who are using expensive air filtering

device.
5. To provide Luffa a biodegradable materials as an air filtering device.
