The project demonstrates the value of integrating electrical distribution engin
eering analysis with Geographic Information Systems
(GIS). The 28-Node model was used as the base distribution system in this study.
It was modeled separately, both in
software capable of unbalanced load-flow and in an industry-standard GIS environ
ment. Both tools utilized were
commercially available, off-the shelf products indicative of those used in acade
mia and in basic GIS installations.
The foundational data necessary to build these models is representative of infor
mation required by a variety of utility
departments for a multitude of applications. It is inherent to most systems wit
hin an enterprise-level, business-wide
data model and therefore can be used to support a variety of applications. In th
is instance, infrastructure information
is assumed to be managed and housed with the GIS. This data provides the require
d information as input for load-flow
calculations. The engineering analysis is performed within Quantum GIS 1.8.0and
its output is passed back to the GIS
in tabular format for incorporation. This thesis investigates the transfer of in
formation between GIS and
Quantum GIS 1.8.0 and demonstrates the extended display capabilities in the GIS
environment This research is implemented on
a small scale, but is intended to highlight the need for standardization and aut
omatic integration of these systems
as well as others that are fundamental to the effective management of electrical
distribution systems.
These tools are highly successful and satisfactory for the calculation of load f
low, protection settings,
short circuit analysis, harmonic analysis, etc. In addition, it is important to
recognize that the
information required to perform these calculations is also utilized in other fo
rms of system management.

garding the operation in which 4 situations were tackled by our team successfull

and plant tripping was avoided otherwise huge losses would have been incurred by
the plant. for that our team was awarded the team of the month.
for my contribution i was awarded the employee of the month. the award is given
to a person if his/her contribution is found considerably good in that period of
time.
in BHEL history this was for the first time ever that a 600MW project was comple
ted before scheduled date. (32 months project was completed in 18 months, a reco
rd itself)

1.5 lakh students writing the exam.
? I won 1st prize in a city level general knowledge competition.
