How the Thermometer Shaped Modern Medicine.

The mercury thermometer was invented in 1714 by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit.

Gabriel was born on May 24,1686 in Poland. He was a Physicist in Engineer and a

Glassblower. Gabriel Fahrenheits parents died on August 14, 1701, from eating a

poisonous mushroom. The invention of the thermometer helped shaped todays

modern medicine by, introducing a way to quantify heat, allowing us to regulate body

temperature and also giving us the power to differentiate between diseases.

The invention of the thermometer impacted several different eras including, the

Georgian era (1714-1830) , the Victorian era (1837-1901), and the

Progressive era (1890-1920). The invention of the thermometer helped

saved a lot of people and it still is. Gabriel determined the boiling point

of water while studying the expansion properties of mercury. Fahrenheit

decided to exchange the alcohol with mercury, which he became very

successful in because of his technique of cleaning it. Gabriel finally settled on the temperature

scale. It ranged from 0 to 212.

The mercury-in-glass thermometer is important because of its ability to determine our

body temperature and other things. Gabriel was always fascinated in new inventions, he also had
a personally interested in natural science. His invention was and still is used all around the

world. This invention helped doctors determine how sick you are and what your body

temperature is. Fahrenheit discovered that pure liquids boil at fixed temperatures.

Gabriel Fahrenheit used to use the twelve point scale. The details about the process of

making the thermometer was not made public until eighteen years because he wanted to keep his

ideas a secret. He began to doubt the genuine of the freezing and boiling points of H2O. Gabriel

built closed bulb thermometers, he was able to make much more accurate measurements of

temperature with his instruments. He made mercury thermometers that let him use the boiling

point of water of the human body.

Fahrenheit is known for his invention in 1714 called the mercury thermometer. Gabriel

lost his parents when he was only fifteen years old. He was a Physicist in Engineer and a

Glassblower. His invention helped shaped todays modern medicine by, introducing a way to

quantify heat, allowing us to regulate body temperature and also giving us

the power to differentiate between diseases. Gabriel Fahrenheit made an

impact on the medical world with his invention that saved a lot of people's

lives and it still is.
