The Beatitudes in Matthew and Luke

Matthew 5:1-12 they persecuted the prophets

who were before you.
When Jesus saw the crowds, he
went up the mountain; and
after he sat down, his disciples
came to him. Then he began to
speak, and taught them,
saying:

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they
will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for
they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children
of God.
Blessed are those who are
persecuted for righteousness'
sake, for theirs is the kingdom
of heaven.
Blessed are you when people
revile you and persecute you
and utter all kinds of evil
against you falsely on my
account. Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward is great in
heaven, for in the same way
Luke 6:17, 20-23
He came down with them
and stood on a level place,
with a great crowd of his
disciples and a great
multitude of people . . . Then
he looked up at his disciples
and said:
Blessed are you who are
poor, for yours is the
kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who are
hungry now, for you will be
filled.
Blessed are you who weep
now, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when
people hate you, and when
they exclude you, revile you,
and defame you on account
of the Son of Man. Rejoice in
that day and leap for joy, for
surely your reward is great
in heaven; for that is what
their ancestors did to the
prophets.

6:27 "But I say to you that

will not be judged; do not
condemn, and you will not be

7:18-22 The disciples of John
reported all these things to
him. So John summoned two
of his disciples and sent them
to the Lord to ask, Are you
the one who is to come, or are
we to wait for another?
When the men had come to
him, they said, John the
Baptist has sent us to you to
ask, Are you the one who is
to come, or are we to wait for
another? Jesus had just then
cured many people of
diseases, plagues, and evil
spirits, and had given sight to
many who were blind. And he
answered them, Go and tell
John what you have seen and
heard: the blind receive their
sight, the lame walk, the
lepers are cleansed, the deaf
hear, the dead are raised, the
poor have good news brought
to them. And blessed is
anyone who takes no offense
at me.
