OBJECTIVE:

1
To know the method in getting disturbed soil sampling.
To determine the properties of soil.

THEORY:

Disturbed soil sampling is an important factor in the determination of the

properties of soil. The correct method of sampling will lead to more accurate results in
the determination of soil properties and structure. The storage of the sample, after it has
been obtained, is an important as sampling itself. If the storage is not done adequately it
will lead to a change in some of the properties of the sample. The labeling of the sample
is necessary for easy identification of the sample and to avoid confusion if different
persons undertake the sampling and testing of the soil sample. A better filing of soil
samples will also mean better control of the data acquisition.

APPARATUS/MATERIALS:

Soil auger
Spade or shovel
Plastic cellophane
Moisture tight sample containers

PROCEDURE:

1. Clear the area of grass and vegetation where sample is to be obtained.

2. With the use soil auger, the soil is bored until desired depth reached and obtains
a disturbed sample.

2
3. Record the depth of each type of soil strata.
4. Store sample in a cool room.
5. Let the soil profile base on the record on each group.

4
Condition of Sample: disturbed

REMARKS:

During sampling, the weather was not too hot and not too cloudy. It was a good
weather to do works in the field.

DISCUSSION:

Taking a disturbed soil sample is the most common method of soil sampling in
soil science and related fields of application. There are several techniques of soil
sampling. The choice of the most appropriate way depends on the specific purpose of
the sampling and the subsequent use of the samples. A small shovel can be used for
taking large samples from a pit or soil surface.

CONCLUSION:

Therefore, in this activity of collecting disturbed soil samples, many methods are
done. The essential methods include using a backhoe in creating a test pit where soil is
collected from the bucket or by using hand augers to gather a sample from a vertical
boring. Gathering disturbed samples of soil will need using collection tools.

Preserve the properties of soil by following the right procedure and after getting
the soil sample, put it in a cellophane or a close container to avoid evaporation of
moisture.
