Study Guide for Spring Test - Magnetism
Magnetism / Electromagnetism represents a significant chunk of the E&M syllabus. I'd like to
see a very strong performance on the Magnetism test.
What to study:
Class notes for Topic 17 - Magnetism / Electromagnetism (ALL)
The notes in this packet (which should serve as brief reminders)
You should study these actively .. cover up each item and write out on scratch paper the
equation or derivation, ete.
Serway ~ sections: 29.1 - 29.4
Serway ~ sections 30.2 - 30.5
Serway ~ sections 31.1 -31.5
Webassign 22, all
Webassign 23, all
SP ASSIGN #24 (the 6 problem graded assignment)
SP ASSIGN #25 (the 2 problem graded assignment)
Guarantee ... at least some questions will be taken directly from class notes / the review
notes in this packet
Guarantee ... most problems will be similar to problems in SP ASSIGN #24 & 25 (parts of
be the same / similar .. there may be some twists, but the fundamental
problems
concepts will be the same)
Guarantee .. at least a couple of questions will be based on problems from the
webassigns #22 and 23, so I'd make sure that you can successfully do ALL of the
problems in the two webassigns.
Guarantee ... there will be a derivation or two and likely a problem or two that will be
based on material from the class notes which was NOT covered in assignments 22, 23,
24, and 25D, Magnetostacies
1, Fores on Moving Charges im Magnetic Fields
Stadents should understand the force oxperienced
by a charged particle in a magnetic field so they
ean:
(2) Galoulate the magnitudp and direction of the
force in terms of q, ¥, and B, and explain
way the wagnetic force can perform ne work.
(A) Deseribe the most general path possible for a
charged particle roving in « uniform uegnetic
field, end describe the motion of « particle
