tributed a number of research papers to
National and International Journals and
delivered invited lectures in New Zea-
land, Australia, USA, and Singapore. He
has set up Center for Disaster Mitigation
and Management with assistance from
UNDRO and Building Technology Cen-
ter with assistance from HUDCO at Anna
University.
Prof. L M Gupta is pr esently a Pr ofes-
sor at Visvesvaraya National Institute of
Technology, Nagpur. His research inter-
ests include pre-stressed steel structures
and rehabilitation and retrofitting of steel
structures. He has guided many Ph.D.
students in the areas of structural steel
design. He offers practical solutions to
various consultancy projects.
Dr. Anil Agarwal is an assistant pr ofes-
sor in the department of Civil Engineer-
ing at the Indian Institute of Technology
Hyderabad. His research interests include
(i) behavior and design of structural sys-
tems under extreme loading conditions
such as fire and earthquake, (ii) progres-
sive collapse and prevention, (iii) struc-
tural dynamics and soil-structure interac-
tion, etc. He has authored several refereed
journal papers and conference proceed-
ings in the area of structural fire safety.
He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of
Constructional Structural Steel and the
ASCE Structural Engineering Journal.

tist at CSIR-Structural Engineering Re-
search Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai.
His field of research interest includes ad-
vanced finite element analysis, computa-
tional Structural dynamics, fatigue and
fracture analysis, steel structures analysis,
design, and testing and material science.
He has published over 75 papers in vari-
ous refereed International and National
Journals, more than 120 papers in various
Conference/Seminar/Workshop proceed-
ings and over 200 technical reports. He
has 4 copyrights of software and 4 pro-
ceedings volumes to his credit.
Dr. Viswanath Chinthapenta is an assis-
tant Professor in the Department of Me-
chanical & Aerospace Engineering, at IIT
Hyderabad. His research area is Computa-
tional Material Mechanics at a large. His
current focus is on deformation in Nano
crystalline materials, Multi-scale model-
ling of composites, SHM: Spectral time-
domain FEM and Constitutive modelling
of soft materials.
Research lab visit
A special lab visit will be organized as a
part of the TEQIP workshop. A few large-
scale tests will be carried out on long steel
beams under the flexural loading.
Through this, the participants of this
workshop will get an idea of lateral tor-
sional buckling, behavior of laterally re-
strained beams, bending stress distribution
along the cross-section of the steel beam
and various aspects related to testing of
steel beams.

Registration form for participation in
the short course is attached along with
this brochure. The fee should be remit-
ted by a crossed demand draft in favor
of IIT Hyderabad payable at State
Bank of India. The registration fee for
a participant from industry is ` 20,000
per head, for faculty from academic
institutions the fee is ` 15,000 per
head. A few seats are available for stu-
dents who will pay a reduced fees of
` 12,000 per head.
Travel, boarding and lodging expenses
of the participants will have to be
borne by the participants or their spon-
soring organizations. A limited accom-
modation is available at the IITH
premises. Participants, who wish to
avail this facility, are advised to write a
request to ispat@iith.ac.in well in ad-
vance and in any case not later than
10th March 2017. The registration
fees include lunch, dinner, and refresh-
ments.
Registration fee is waived for TEQIP
participants. TEQIP nomination forms
have been sent to respective colleges.
