What is factor analysis? Explain its use in analysis if marketing problem?

4
The factor analysis is one among the methods that are used for investigating the inter-
relationship among all the relevant variables, with one being dependent. It is a situation in which
all the variable are treated as inter-dependent and the interest is in analyzing their interdependence
and frequently used independent analysis of that of factor analysis. The objective is the represent a
set of observed variable in terms of smaller number of hypothetical, underlying and unknown
dimensions which are called factors.
Out of the different methods in this properly used one in marketing research the most
properly used one in marketing research application is called principle component analysis. The
output is in the form of an matrix, with the statement as row and factors identified as column.
The factors identified are such that
 The first factor explain the maximum amount of variance between statement;
 The second factor explain some more variance explained or the increase is
negligible.
The factor so obtained need to be ascertained.
This has high implication fir ‘positioning’ the product as well as in identifying
advertising themes that the potential buyers would consider appealing Factor analysis can be very
useful when faced with a mass of dates that an defying analysis, and guidance can be obtained
from clearly written sources.
Write short note on use of cluster analysis in marketing management?
At times the investigates is internal in putting objects into groups on the basis of various
segmentation variables like
 Demographic (sex, age, income, occupation)
 Geographic(region, city, size)
 Psychographic(like style, personality)
 Behavioral( usage, attitude, preference).
The data obtained above is the subjected to cluster analysis.
Cluster analysis, for most part, requires judgment on the part of the investigation as to the h0
when and compensation of the cluster to be formed.
At times it is not an easy task to undertake.
The application of cluster analysis is used in the following market context.
5
1. To group the programmers into similar types.
2. To develop homogenous group of clustered.
3. To determine spheres of opinion leadership.
4. To assess the similarity of world markets.
5. To find out the effects of price on brand switching.
Write short note on two factor analysis of variance.
In two way analysis of variance the data are divided on the basis of the two factors:
a) The agriculture output may be classified on the basis of different varieties of
seeds and also in the basis of difference fertilizers.
b) A business from may leave its sales data classified the basis of different
salesman and also on the basis of sales in different area.
The step involved in this are
a) Set up null hypothesis
b) Find the total some of all the items. It is denoted by T.
c) Find correlation features (C.F) = T2/N Where N – the number of items.
d) Find total sum of squares = (squares of all item – C.F.)
e) Find sum of squares between column.
f) Find sum of squares between rows
g) Find residual variance.
h) Construct analysis of variance table.
i) Calculate the values of F as follows:
F- For variance between column = (variance between column)/(residual variance).
F- For variance between row = (variance between row)/(residual variance).
j) Find the tabulation value of F for their respective degrees of freedom.
k) If calculated F < tabulated F, we accept the null hypothesis.
l) If calculated F > tabulated F, we reject the null hypothesis.
What is multiple regression? Explain the role of business.
Multiple regression analysis include the influence of more than one independent variable on
the one dependent variable.

6
The multiple regression analysis is the most useful analytical models which can be used for
marketing problems such as
1) The main variable which influence the dependent variable can be identified and this
can be used by the marketing executives for positioning this product on the basis of
it.
2) The regression analysis can be used by the marketing executive to product the
possible consumer reaction over his product.
3) Multiple regression analysis can also be used to measure the effectiveness of
adjustment contents.
4) It also used to predict the sales of particular product.
Discuss the role of discriminant analysis in business problem?

Discriminant analysis was employed to find out the sale performance of different
salesman employed in an organization on the basis of the several levels likes good, better
bests etc in order to consider their for promotion or for an incentive program.

Discriminant analysis can be employed to study two different popular brands of any
product is the same category in terms of their preference over personality characteristic of
buyers.

Another application is to find what characteristics a buyer who quickly adopt a new
style in their choices of new innovative products and differentiate them from non – innovators.
This will help a member to understand the diffusion of innovation product.

The multiple discriminant analysis was employed to exercise what variables applicant
to be the most important determine in adoption of a particular brand of product before and
offer certain event such as certification, registration, advertisement etc. on the brand.

As it requires small size of sample to a discriminant functions, this is widely used on an

application tool in industrial marketing research.
