Stability calculations were made for tanker Marconi type N in order to check stability
characteristics after reconstruction (inner bottom and inner side are added). Calculations were
made according to Rules for the Classification of Inland Navigation Vessels - Bureau Veritas,
hereinafter Rules.
The input data for the calculation of the stability of mass and center of gravity of the lightship
after the completion of reconstruction were obtained from inclining test.
Vessel mathematical model consist of hull, trunk and superstructure. Model was made on
safety side.
In nature, the vessel is designed so that the system dry spaces was formed by division of the
ship using seven transverse and one longitudinal bulkheads in hull, accessible via passes from
the deck, preventing water from entering through openings in the hull that might come into
contact with the surface when the damage and so the resulting heel. At the same time, the
system outflow from the deck prevents water retention on board and the formation of free
surfaces.
For flooding point entrance into machinery space was adopted. As for critical points entrance
into salon and all air vents were taken into account. Flooding point and critical points
coordinated are presented in table 1.
Proof of sufficient intact stability shall be furnished for all stages of loading and unloading and
for the final loading condition for all the relative densities of the substances transported
contained in the vessel.
It is assumed that ship will load two adjacent tanks starting from aft to 40% its capacity in the
first stage. After all tanks are filled to 40% their capacity second stage will start. In second
stage tanks shall be filled to 100% of their capacity in the same order of filling.
- Case 2, End of cargo loading, beginning of journey, 100% of cargo, 100% of supplies
- Case 8, End of cargo loading, beginning of journey, 100% of cargo, 100% of supplies
4.1 The intact stability criteria specified in 4.1.2, 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 are to be complied with for all
intended loading and unloading conditions, bearing in mind the influence of all free surfaces in
tanks.
These criteria set minimum values, but no maximum values are recommended. It is advisable
to avoid excessive values of metacentric height, since these might lead to acceleration forces
which could be prejudicial to the vessel, its equipment and to safe carriage of the cargo.
The surface of the positive area of the righting lever curve up to immersion of the first
unprotected (non-weathertight) opening and in any event up to an angle of heel 27, shall
not be less than 0,024 mrad.
