Jumbo Jack Heavy Lifter

Over 50,000 t
Data Sheet
Proprietary Solution

Jumbo Jack is floating heavy lifting solution,

based on our experience in design and
operation of heavy lifting vessels and
conducting of heavy lifting operations.

Instead of using winches, lifting gear of

Jumbo Jack is rack and pinion system
standard solution used on Jack-Up rigs. It is
possible to use even circular columns with
pin-in-the-hole system, but lifting capacity
should be reduced to approx. 1, 500 t per
column.
Jumbo Jack

Parts:
Two barges, connected with wing-shaped
bracing provide buoyancy of the vessel and
cargo.

Any two identical barges, suitable for intended

load, can be used.

Depending on lifting load, converted

OSV/MPSV, even two tankers or bulk carriers
can be used.

An even number of columns completed with

standard Jacking Rack and Pinion System.
The capacity of the Jacking system:
200 450 t per gear; 4 6 gears per chord, 4
chords per column.

Based on above, the total capacity of the

system is over 50,000 t.
With circular legs and pin in the hole lifting
system, lifting capacity is aprox. 1,500 t per
leg.

Living quarters with life support equipment and

control house.

We believe that accommodation for 80

persons is enough, but depends on the type of
intended operation.

Positioning system we recommend Dynamic

Positioning system (DP3).

8 Diesel Gensets of approx. 1800 eKW each.

Usage of mooring positioning system is

optional.

How does it work?

1. Approach to the lift:

Note that Jacks are lowered.

2. Jumbo Jack is positioned under the fixed platform:

Lifting operation is starting with the speed of approx. 0.45 m/min.

3. Topside is lifted from its base in the single lift:

Note the position of the Jacks.

4. Removal from the field:

Note that Jacks are lowered to deck level of the barge.

Jumbo Jack can remove topside by its own propulsion (4-6 kn) or be towed by a suitable
tug. If required, dismantling and cutting/dismantling of the topside components can start
during the transit, onboard Jumbo Jack.

Benefits and Possibilities:

1. Jumbo Jack design can be easily customized to meet specific requirements in range of 1,500 t
per leg (pin-in-the-hole) to 10,800 t per column (rack and pinion);
2. Lifting time is 0.45 m/min 1 m/min, depending on the system used;
3. Wing-shaped bracing is designed in such manner that easily can be shortened or lengthen to
suit breadth of the cargo;
4. By use of transversal or longitudinal beams and winches Jumbo Jack can be used to recover
objects from ocean floor;
5. Jumbo Jack offers class leading lifts while using off the shelf parts;
6. Usage of Jumbo Jack do not require complicated, and mostly unsafe, manual rigging operation;
7. Jumbo Jack is easy to repurpose, by adding dedicated topside;
8. Possible to use a pair of existing barges, MPSVs/OSVs, tankers conversion is required.
