The patient has no family history of heart disease or diabetes, however both her parents
are on medication for high blood pressure. Her paternal grandmother died of breast
cancer at age 47. Her maternal grandmother suffers from severe osteoporosis and her
mother is taking prescription medications to slow bone loss.
Trisha was hospitalized briefly in her junior year of high school for exhaustion and
dehydration. Hospital records note that she reported skipping meals to fit into a dress
for a dance.
Recent lab work shows that Trisha is moderately anemic. Her cholesterol levels are
normal. Her average resting heart rate is 64 and her average resting blood pressure is
88/60.
Trisha feels sluggish and wants an assessment of her current health. She struggled with
her weight in high school and reports that while she does not want to slip back into bad
habits, she does want to maintain a slim figure.

Calculate Trishas BMI based on her height and weight and describe the
implications of this number.

Trisha reports eating 5 servings of vegetables per day. She does not eat fruit as she
avoids the sugar. Trisha eats no rice, pasta, or bread products. Occasionally she has a
piece of whole grain toast before she goes running. She eats beans, egg whites, tofu,
and fish for protein. She reports drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day. She does not
drink soda or coffee, but she does drink 1-2 sugar-free energy drinks per day. She
sometimes skips meals if she forgets to pack food to take to campus.
Trisha does not eat fast food and only orders salad (with the dressing on the side) when
she eats out.
She doesnt consume enough calories at all in any of the food groups. She should
have:
Average calories consumed per day 2100
Average fat consumed per day 44-47g
Average saturated fat consumed per 18g
day
Average carbohydrates consumed per 225-325g
day
Average protein consumed per day 60-175g
Average sodium consumed per day 2400mg
Her weight will rapidly decrease because she is exercising TOO much without the right
nutrients. She isnt consuming nearly enough calories or food groups to keep her
healthy. She quickly works off everything she consumes which isnt very beneficial to
her body. She is becoming anorexic especially since she skips some meals for certain
things, and she has a case of anemia or lack of red blood cells from all of the over
exertion.
Overall Assessment:
Discuss overall implications of BMI and any energy imbalance on overall health.
The average BMI for a 19 yr old female is 18.5 and the average weight range is 129-
174 lbs. Trisha is underweight and her body mass index is below average. She isnt
eating enough and is exercising too much causing her to work off the little things she
does eat draining her energy and depleting her weight.
Propose ways to bring the energy input and output in line with Trishas health
goals. Describe final recommendations to improve Trishas overall health and
help her regain energy and strength. How should Trisha alter her eating habits
and her activity? Link your recommendations to her personal health history and
her family history.
There are many changes that need to be made to Trishas diet and excersice plan to
accommodate a healthy lifestyle and meal intake. Trisha has a case of hypergymnasia
or also known as anorexia in a different form. Hypergymnasia is a form of anorexia in
which the patient intakes too little food and excersices too much. This over exertion and
lack of fuel causes the body to break down fast and weight to drop. Anorexia can be the
cause of the sluggishness and a main reason in the hospitalization that occurred before.
Also the reported anemia or lack of red blood cells found: Recent lab work shows that
Trisha is moderately anemic. Her cholesterol levels are normal. Her average resting
heart rate is 64 and her average resting blood pressure is 88/60. Can also account for
her sluggish behavior and low energy levels. The anorexia aspect may be fixed with the
help of a diet and excersice plan and good, healthy living and eating habits. A dietician
can properly line out what Trisha should be eating and doing to stay in a healthy state
as she wants to be, but not to the state where she is too slim. A diet plan should be set
out for Trisha to follow along with the proper amount of excersice proportion. The
anemic aspect of Trishas health may be slightly helped out by vitamin B supplements,
transfusions, and or iron deficiency pills. All of these can help account for the missing
red blood cells need to help activate her body. Due to her elders having cancer and
osteoporosis, Trisha needs to vitally watch and make sure she gets ENOUGH of all food
groups and stays on healthy levels of blood cells in order to help prevent bone loss,
cancers, and other health problems noted. A dietician is necessary in order to get Trisha
back to a healthy stage and weight.
