INTRODUCTION

Youngss double slit experiment was first conducted in

1801 and is considered to be one of the landmark
experiments of science. Before the experiment was
carried out,it was widely believed that light was made
up of particles. But this experiment proved that it also
behaved as a wave, which brought about the wave
particle duality.

ABSTRACT
The double slit experiment is carried out by the use of
monochromatic light shining through two slits and an
interference pattern occurs on the screen behind. It shows
that behaves as a wave.During our experiment we
discovered that the interference pattern is such that the
the intensity of the bright fringes decreases as we move
away from the the center fringe
Aim of the experiment is to prove the theory that
light is a wave

Aparatus required:
Monochromatic light source
Razor blade or scissors
Screen (for observing fringes)
Cardboard

PROCEDURE

1. Make two narrow slits on the cardboard using the

razor blade or scissors
2. Set up the experiment as follows:
3. Shine the monochromatic light source through the
slits. This then results in 2 coherrent sources of light
4. Observe the interference pattern
The fig above shows the interference pattern

This basic diagram above shows a more visible interference

pattern
CONCLUSION
Light behaves as a wave as proven by the interference
patterns.
