Designing a Fitness Facility Intro. to Sports Medicine

The project will be split into 3 sections, with the corresponding point value next to the section. THIS IS NOT A
REQUIRE PARTNER PROJECT. If you choose to work with a partner, you will both receive the same grade,
regardless of who does the work. Please choose a partner you will be confident that will complete the work to your
standards.

All Sections should be typed, with the exception of the floor plan illustration

Project Outline

Part 1- Creating a Floor Plan- 150 points.


Create a detailed physical floor plan for facility. Use a computer, poster board, etc. to demonstrate and
label the physical space of your facility.
1. Name your facility. You need to have a Logo.
2. What type of equipment are you offering your members? Name and label the equipment areas and
the equipment on the floor plan.
3. Provide a separate list of the equipment that you are installing your facility. (Needed for budget)
4. What kind of employees do you need to employee? List the employees and provide a job
description for what are they responsible for.
5. Must incorporate a functional fitness area on your floor plan.
Keep in mind
o Space Considerations
o How will the space be used by different groups?
o How does it need to function for each group?
o Whats the best arrangement?
o How much space is needed?

Part II- Promotional Materials- 100 points


Create a Brochure for Potential Members
o Contact information
o Put your logo on the brochure
o What are the fees for your facility?
o What amenities are you offering?
o What kind of classes are you offering your members?
o Make it colorful and Eye-catching- it is a business brochure!

Part III- Financial Planning- 130 points

Budget I- Equipment Budget- 75 Points


Using internet sources, search for functional training equipment for your functional fitness area. You
are to create a budget for all the materials that you are interested in purchasing.
What are you going to buy?
o Ropes, hurdles, plyo boxes, etc.???
o Need at least 12 different items. That doesnt mean you by 12 weights all in different sizes.
How much is your equipment going to cost you?
Budget II- Operational Costs- 55 Points
Using the employee list you created above, you are to log their hourly rate, based on them working an 8
hour shift. You are creating the budget for 1 day of coverage,
What is their hourly rate? How much are you paying your employees for an 8 hour shift? List the shift
times & their hourly rate.
If you are offering group fitness class and you want to offer 3 a day, assume that you are paying your
instructor $30 an hour.
Break it down for department, customer service, fitness, group fitness, etc.
