CABARROGUIS, Quirino In a move to conserve and

This sentiment was echoed by Police Chief Superin-
tendent Eliseo Rasco, RD of the Police Regional Office
2, who said that before any pull out of troops can be con-
sidered, the NPA must show some degree of goodwill.
And giving up several firearms to the government
is one way of showing goodwill and sincerity, Gen. Rasco
said.
The firefight between government forces and the New
Peoples Army began last Wednesday night when an Army
platoon patrolling the vicinity of Sto Nino in Cagayan
encountered a group of New Peoples Army.
So far, the NPA has suffered heavy casualties with
witnesses seeing the group flee the battle zone toting sev-
eral dead comrades.
There were at least 15 dead being carried by the
NPAs fleeing the area, one witness told government
forces in the vernacular.
One soldier said that he saw trails of blood in the
area of engagement, which means that the enemy had

tice (DOJ) has filed three
criminal cases before the
Muntinlupa Regional
Trial Court (RTC) against
Senator Leila de Lima in
relation to her alleged in-
volvement in the illegal
drug trade inside the na-
tional penitentiary.
De Lima was accused
of violating Section 5 and
Section 28 of Republic
Act 9165 or the Compre-
hensive Dangerous Drugs
Act of 2002, which per-
tains to the sale and trade
of illegal drugs, and the
criminal liability of gov-
ernment officials and em-
ployees.
The charges stemmed
from complaints received
by the DOJ from the Vol-
unteers Against Crime
and Corruption, National
Bureau of Investigation,
and New Bilibid Prison
(NBP) inmate Jaybee
Sebastian.
Sebastian testified
before a House inquiry
that he gave the senator
millions of pesos in drug
payoffs when she was
still justice secretary.
The neophyte law-
maker has denied the ac-
cusations, which she said
were orchestrated by
President Duterte as pay-
back for her crusade
against his bloody anti-
narcotics war and the so-
called Davao Death
Squad.
Also charged along
with De Lima is former
Bureau of Corrections
chief Franklin Jesus
Bucayu.
The Muntinlupa RTC
is expected to assess
whether arrest warrants
will be issued against De
Lima and others charged.
De Lima labeled the
cases as "political perse-
cution," and said she
would fight the charges.
"This is travesty of
truth and justice. Plain
and simple political per-
secution," she said.
"I will fight this out
for as long as I can. They
can never break my

totoong nakakatulong sa kanilang barangay katulad lamang sa pagtulong sa pagsasaayos ng kanilang mga daan at paglilinis sa kanilang kapaligiran. Ni wala din nakapagsabi sa
mga residente na abuso o may paglabag sa mga ordinansa ng barangay mula sa mga sundalo. Nakasaad pa sa nasabing manipesto na bago tuluyang tumira ang mga sundalo sa
nasabing barangay ay nagpaalam sila sa mga opisyal ng barangay at mga residente para tumulong sa kanilang community support program.
