ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
I believe that i am the most developed in competency 11 (To engage in professional development individually and with others). I
spent a lot of time learning how to work with students in a groups setting since i spent a lot of time in a resource classroom; which is
created for students with learning disabilities. I was able to work with students one on one and truly see the impact that working with
them had. I felt extremely comfortable working individual with students because we were able to finish and complete a lot more
assignment then i thought we could. Also I believe i got a good sense on competency 1 by working in groups i learned the
importance of listening to the students, its important to get to know them as individuals so we can connect on a personal level before
trying to bombard them with information. By spending time getting to know the students i was able to adapt my approach to working
with them by comparing the exercises to thing that they like. By making these comparisons i was able to bridge their personal
passions with education. For example one of the student read the book Divergent So did I , so while writing the response we talked
about how the main character from the novel would do anything for love comparing it to the short story.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
I have just begun learning how to be a truly effective teacher, I am no where near ready to be a
teacher. I would like to improve on competency 2 because even though my language i use
everyday i extremely well rounded i would like to learn how to better adapt my spoken and written
language to different grade levels. I would also like to improve my spelling and grammar so i can
set better expectations for myself. I would also like to work on competency 9, during my first field
experience I was able to witness a couple event although i wanted to participate in them further. Its
extremely important to me as a future teacher to participate in activities in my school to get to know
my students. I want more opportunities to engage with the students on a personal level, so i can
use it in a classroom.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:


As a future teacher it's important for me to understand that i will never stop learning. I will have to keep my
learning progress in a professional journal that i will document my process as a teacher and what i have done to
further i own education. I will also keep adding to my professional portfolio so i can see the progress i have made
throughout my university career, for example by posting reflections, lesson plans, articles and essays that
document my progress as a future teacher. I will use this portfolio to obtain a job in my future. I love to read which
is one of my biggest passions, reading is essential to gain a better understand of the world, i will continue to read
to learn about many different topics. I will also use my elective to take classes that I'm passionate about so i have
a better understanding of the topic for example fine art classes. I'll keep attending my arts school outside of school
to further my skills. I will attend seminars on many different subject to better myself. I also hope to join a sports
team at McGill to better understand the importance of team work and meet new friends; meeting new people is
essential to learning.
