emissionsbyimprovingtakeoffperformance.

Airbuspioneeredtheuseofwingtipdevicesincommercialairtransportation,beginningwiththeA300andA310.Bothof
thesewidebodyjetlinerscornerstonesofthecompanysproductlinewereoutfittedwithwingtipfences,arrowshaped
verticalattachmentsthatextendedaboveandbelowtheendofthewing.

ExperiencegainedwiththeA300/A310wasappliedtothewingtipfencesintegratedonAirbussingleaisleA320Family,
followedbytheincorporationofwingtipfencesandlargerwinglettypedevicesontheA330,A340,A380andA350XWB
jetliners.

AirbusnextevolutionwereSharklets,the2.4metretallunitsdevelopedforA320Familyjetlinersthatreducefuelburnbyup
to4percentwhilereducingCO2emissionsannuallybyasmuchas900tonnesperaircraft.Inadditiontobeingstandardon
NewEngineOptionA320neoaircraft,theyareavailablefornewproductionA320ceo(CurrentEngineOption)versions,and
offeredinaretrofitsolutiononearlierbuiltA320seriesaircraft.

FortheA330neo,itsSharkletsincreasethejetlinersoverallwingspanto64metres,anextensionfrom60.3metreson
currentproductionA330ceoaircraft.AswithallwingtipdevicesusedonAirbusaircraftfromtheoriginalA300/A310,they
reducethespiralshapedvorticesthatformattheendofwingsduringflight,whichcreatesaerodynamicdrag.
