This is the self-assessment and development assignment which takes into account the
personality, short and long term goals being set by the individual, some of the key strengths
needed in order to fulfill the set goals and ambitions and some of the weaknesses that require
attention and exertion. Further, it also includes the skill, knowledge and attitude analysis in order
to further highlight the basic personality attitude and skills in order to achieve the goals and
ambition being set in the early life.

1.0 Introduction

Im pleased introduce myself for you; my name is Huang Qirui, 22 years old this year. I have
been living in Malaysia four years and three years studying in Inti College. Im come from China
of HuBei province this place where is so beautiful, every day like summer. I am currently a
Finance student pursing my graduation degree. Therefore, it is very important to me to set out the
future goals and career plan at this stage of life. Considering my interests and academia
background, I aim to make a considerable mark in the company I join through the consistent hard
work and dedication. I wanted to become a part of the multinational company and reach the
heights of the career growth. In addition, I also intend to start a company of my own in order to
fulfill my self-actualization needs. Also I wanted to serve the community through participation in
the volunteer work and in angio sector.

While talking about my hobbies, I like to spend my leisure time reading books and novels,
exploring business break through, travelling and exploring and socializing.

1.1 SMART Goals

SMART goals are the acronym of the specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and timely.
Setting the goals in the form of SMART gives the opportunity to the individual to be on the right
track while achieving the ambitions. (Haughey, 2016) Further, reviewing the history of the goals
setting, academia and research suggests that the concept started back in 1954 by Peter Drucker in
his book named The Practice of Management. The SMART acronym is believed to be originated
organically than specifically invented. (Hornyak, 2012)

1.2 Goal Setting

The process of goal setting is not as simple as it looks but is a complex and critical one, where
the individual has to break down the goals into various short term phases in order to make them
achievable. The whole process of goal setting is further divided into short-term, medium and
long-term goals where the first two phases can be termed as the striving objectives in order to
attain the long term final goal or ambition.

SHORT TERM GOALS

The short term goals include the objectives that are supposed to be achieved in the near future
say within the time period of one year. Considering my current position and status, the short term
goals includes getting the good grades in the current year. Further it also includes paying
attention to my personal growth and learning from the subject I am currently studying.For this, I
set a target of achieving 3.3 GPA in the current semester and for the purpose of achieving this
goal, I intend to study my homework on daily basis. Further, I also plan to devote some time
reading business related material like The Business Recorder and The Economist in order to
make myself abreast of the business world and it will also add to my future personal
development.

MID TERM GOALS

These goals are intended to achieve in the time period of more than one year to the duration of 3
years. Considering the mid term goals, I intend to concentrate towards my overall degree
completion with a high academic standing. Also considering the topic for final thesis and the
outlining the main sub themes for the purpose of thesis come under the mid term goals. The
selection of the topic is very important as it provides key exposure into the particular field and
adds on to the knowledge and learning in the specific area. Therefore, the mid-term and short-
term goals are purely academic oriented that is passing a degree with mark able GPAand looking
for the career opportunity in some multinational company for the purpose of stating off the
professional life.

LONG TERM GOALS

The long term goals are considered to be the ones to be achieved later in life. These are usually
the professional goals that includes where you intend to stand after spending years on career
development and growth. They are usually the big goals that are intended to achieved in 5 or plus
years from now. Considering my career plan and ambitions, I aim to be marketing or brand head
in a multinational company. In addition I also intend to invent and operate an independent
business in order to fulfill my desire for self-achievement. In this regard, I intend to establish a
consultancy firm providing services as consultants and marketing solutions to other new and
established businesses. Further, I also plan to serve the community by actively participating in
the angioand social responsibility sector in order to satisfy my inner self.

2.0 Learning Style

Learning is the process of acquiring information or skills through education, experience, or being
taught. In addition learning through observation also called as vicarious learning is a key leaning
style and is the most popular among the humans and other organisms. Visual or spatial, auditory,
verbal or linguistics, physical or kinesthetic, logical or mathematical, interpersonal and
intrapersonal are the various learning styles being defined by academia. (Overview of Learning
Styles, 2017)

Kolbs Experiential Learning Theory

The Kolbs learning theory is primarily concerned


with the internal cognitive learning process and
proposes a four stage cycle of learning. (Jenkins,
2007)It also suggests four different learning styles
namely diverging, accommodating, assimilating and
converging. The theory has various educational and
industrial implications to help students and employ to
acquire new skills and expertise. (McLeod, 2013)

2.1 My learning style

Studies show that there are three ways to receive information in human brain, namely do the
movements, seeing and hearing. According to nerve linguists, these three learning style can be
classified as kinesthetic, visual and audio. Statistics show that about 40 percent to 50 percent
people prefer visual as the main learning model; 30%-40% people prefer kinesthetic learning
model; and about 15-20 percent people prefer hearing as the main learning model.

I regard visual as my main learning model. Firstly, reading is my habit and I like get data through
learning, which can make me fully, understand the contents of learning. Secondly, the content of
the class can be better understood when learning lecture.

I didnt used to learn through hearing, while some teachers dont used to write in class, so I have
to arrange the learning content on my own. I sometimes apply recorder in class to record the
content, which encourages me to listen attentively in class and improves my comprehensive
listening ability. However, I am not used to learn by radio due to the lack of vocabulary.

When I was young, my attention is not focused and I dont like learning, while my mother helped
me learn by kinesthetic method. When I grow up, this way is not suit for me any longer.
However, there are still teachers apply this way in order to make class interesting. Different
learning method has its advantage and disadvantage, what we should do is to discover the way
suits us. Visual learning is the way which suits me.

2.2 Action plan

First of all, I am a visual learner. I prefer to understand and memory information with flow chart
and chart. Secondly, taking notes and reading more times, circle the important content and draw
with color pen, which will help focus the perusal. And I can apply recording tools in auditory
learning. In addition, communicating with my classmates is also useful. Last but not the least, I
rarely uses kinesthetic learning when my attention is not focus. And in order to relieve boredom
and fatigue I use computer to take notes.

3.0 Strength & Weakness

Strengths are the positive aspects of the personality that help to achieve the set ambition while
weaknesses are the weak points in the personality that need some work in order to polish those
abilities. Pursuing on the same weaknesses over and over again is one way to overcome them.

In order to identify some of strengths and weaknesses of my personality, I take an online


personality test in order to first know about the type of personality I exhibit. And the results
make me much pleased and excited to knowing that my personality traits do support the career
path and ambition is selected for me.

3.1 Strengths

Through the Who AM I workshop and according to Hollands going to make a test, my
character belongs to the type of society. People of this type are willing to help others. I am not
afraid to communicate with others and I am very outgoing, that is outgoing personality which
makes me food at communicating with others and adapts to new environment quickly. I am good
at expressing feelings with language and communicating with my team members at work. I get to
know myself better through Hollands going to help me and I hope I can find a job suits me the
most in future. When I come back to China, my dream is to become marketing through the study
in Malaysia. I can transfer the knowledge that I have learned to the people who need help. I think
that is a good choice for me. Many professionals regard character analysis as important, by
which we can know a persons weakness and strength. In the company, it can better facilitate
work distribution.

3.2 Weaknesses

Now considering the flip side of my personality, desire to over-rule the destinies of both oneself
and of others, big ego problem, being too optimistic and feeling bored by finance and
administrative work are some of the weaknesses of my personality that possess a threat towards
my goals persuasion.

4.0 Skill Set Analysis

I wanted to get a good entry level position in multinational organization right after my
graduation. And with the continuous hard work, I intend to grow my career and become a
marketing of brand head in the long term. In addition I also wanted to start a consultancy firm
providing consultancy and marketing solutions to other companies.

In addition to the skills mentioned above, there are various other skills that I needed to learn and
develop in order to successfully pursue my career or ambition in marketing and business. The
ability to highly control the temperament, gaining technical skills (getting familiar with
HTML/CSS), ability to overcome the fear of failure and learning some accounting knowhow in
order to manage my consultancy firm are among the few additional skills I intend to work on.

6.0 Conclusion

I get to know myself better after learning this course, such as my learning style, learning method
and my personality. All these can do me a favor when I graduate and it is very useful for my
work. The most important is that I have a clear goal of career in future and can set a better goal
which is of great importance in everybodys life.
