Please accept the following as application for the indicated position. My name is Taylor Chestnut and I am a fourth-year student at the University of Victoria, currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science Undergraduate Degree, majoring in Kinesiology in the Honours Program and minoring in Psychology.
To this point, my degree has been instrumental in developing my interest in the human body and how an active and healthy lifestyle can not only boost immediate health but provide amazing long- term benefits. My education at the University of Victoria thus far has provided me with an in-depth understanding of how exercise and physical activity affect different muscles and bodily systems, as well as the body as a whole. This knowledge is complemented by my previous experience from my avid participation in sports.
I have participated in organized and recreational sports my whole life. I believe that physical activity is a vital part to sustaining an optimistic outlook and living a happier life. My diverse experience in sports and recreation has taught me the benefits of living an active and healthy lifestyle and made me an advocate for anyone and everyone who is trying to improve their health, no matter how far along they are in their journey. Although track and field is considered an individual sport in which self-motivation, dedication, and perseverance are fundamental elements, my coaches also taught me to be supportive of each athlete on the track. They taught me that leading by example is the best way to empower others and to inspire them to do better. As team captain of my senior girls basketball team I learned that inspiring others is not only a matter of leading by example, but by effective communication as well.
As a youth leader, a volunteer track coach, a and member of multiple sports teams, I have been exposed to all varieties of personalities. I have coached, taught, and participated with individuals with various mental and developmental conditions. Working and training with these individuals has not only broadened my view of what defines an active lifestyle, but allowed to me to develop specific communication skills and different methods of coaching.
My work experience in the service industry has further developed my communication skills, along with a team-oriented mindset and excellent customer service. As a strength trainer at CARSA, I look forward to the opportunity to engage each individual and assist them to meet their goals and objectives through inspiration and positive feedback.
