MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT

( THE DEAD TEACH THE LIVING )

GENERAL RULES AT THE DISSECTING ROOM.

MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT ( THE DEAD TEACH THE LIVING ) is an

universal basic principle that must always be remembered by every medical
students and those who study Anatomy on cadaver.
Universally, MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT means that medical students
learn from the dead so the cadavers also become their teacher.
Based on MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT every medical student who works
on cadavers must obey Code of Ethic of Anatomy as follows :
Students :
1. MUST prepare him / her self for Laboratory practice, including :
1.1. Learn the Lab. Manual accordingly
1.2. Bring along Anatomy dissecting instruments ( minimum 1 set for each
group )
1.3. Bring along Lab. Manual, Anatomy atlas and ( if necessary ) anatomy
lecture materials
1.4. Wear the required Laboratory dress properly
2. MUST respect the cadavers as they respect their teacher.
3. MUST NOT make fun of cadavers or parts of the cadavers whatever the
condition of the cadavers or parts of the cadavers might be.
4. MUST NOT throw part of the cadaver if his / her fellow student wants to borrow
the specimen.
5. MUST give / take directly the specimen from his / her fellow student if he / she
wants to lend / borrow the specimen.
6. MUST NOT damage cadavers or parts of the cadavers on purpose or for fun.
7. MUST work very carefully to avoid accidents from dissection instruments.

WEEK ONE
Wednesday, October 15, 2014

TOPIC : GROSS ANATOMY OF REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES : Students are able to identify :
1. Pelvic organs
2. Relationship between pelvic peritoneum and pelvic organs
3. Pelvic peritoneal pouches

1
4. Female and male reproductive organs
5. Parts of female and male reproductive organs
6. Blood supply of pelvic organs
PROCEDURES :
1. Discuss among the group :
1.1. Pelvic organs
1.2. The division of Reproductive organs.
2. Look at the cadaver the location of pelvic and reproductive organs and their relation with
the pelvic peritoneum.
3. Discuss among the group the differences between male and female reproductive organs
in relation to their location?
4. Look at the cadaver for pelvic peritoneal pouches:
4.1. Retropubic space ( Cavum prevesicale Retzii )
4.2. Recto-uterine space ( Douglas pouch , Excavatio rectouterina , cavum
Douglasi )
4.3. Recto-vaginal septum
5. Look at the cadaver/specimen for ::
5.1. Male external reproductive organs and parts.
5.2. Male internal reproductive organs and parts.
6. Look at the cadaver/specimen for parts of the:
6.1. Female external reproductive organs
6.2. Female internal reproductive organs
7. Discuss among the group blood supply, lymphatic drainage and innervation of the pelvic.
8. Look at the cadaver / specimen for :
8.1. Common iliac artery ( A. iliaca communis )
8.2. External iliac artery ( A. iliaca externa )
8.3. Internal iliac artery ( A. iliaca interna , A. hypogastrica )
8.4. Uterine artery ( A. uterine )
8.5. Ovarian artey ( A. ovarica )

3. Pelvic inlet ( aditus pelvic, apertura pelvis superior ) and its parts.
4. Pelvic outlet ( exitus pelvic, apertura pelvis inferior ) and its parts
5. Differences between pelvic inlet and outlet.
6. Pelvic diaphragms
7. Axis pelvic and its connection with labour process
PROCEDURES :
1. Discuss among the group differences of the pelvic inlet and outlet.
2. Identify at the specimen pelvic inlet and outlet.
3. What is axis pelvicum?
4. What is the connection of axis pelvicum with the process of labour?
5. Discuss among the group imaginary planes of the pelvic connected to labour process.
6. Look at the cadaver for pelvic diaphragm.
7. Identify at the specimen landmarks of the pelvic connected to labour process
