Unit V

1. a) What do you mean by biasing? What are the different types of biasing? What are
the factors that can affect the stability of a transistor?
b) Draw the dc load line and locate the operating point for fixed biasing transistor
circuit shown in the Figure. What will be its stability factor? VBE = 0.7V

2. a) What is a self-bias? Draw a self-bias circuit and derive the stability factor?
b) Draw the IC, VE, VB, VC, and IB for the following circuit?

3. a) Derive the expressions of stability factors with respect to ICO, and VBE for Emitter
bias circuit. Compare the features of fixed bias, self bias and emitter bias circuits?
b) Fog shows a self-biased transistor amplifier using a silicon transistor with 0.6mA.
Find the values of RC, RE, R1 and R2 such that it meets the following specifications

over the temperature range 25oC to 145oC. 10%, VBE at 25oC = 65050mV, ICO

at 25oc = 5nA max, Ico at 145oC = 3.0A max. Assume that percentage change in IC
due to VBE and ICO is same(5%).

v) Condition for thermal stability.
5. a) Draw the h-parameter equivalent of a transistor amplifier in CE, CB and CC mode
and determine the input impedance, output impedance, Voltage Gain, Current Gain,
Overall Voltage Gain and Overall Current Gain.
b) For a common base amplifier, a transistor has the following values of h-parameters,
hib=28, hfb= -0.98, hrb = 5 104 & hob = 0.34 106 . Find the values of Current
gain, Input resistance, voltage gain and output resistance. The load resistance is
1.2K. The source resistance is Zero.

UNIT VI
1. a) Discuss the effect of negative feedback on voltage gain, stability, distortion,
bandwidth, output and input impedance of an amplifier.
b) An amplifier gain changes by 10%. Using negative feedback, the amplifier is to
be modified to provide a gain of 100 with 0.1% variation. Obtain the required open-
loop gain of the amplifier and the amount of negative feedback.
2. a) Draw and explain all basic feedback topologies used for negative feedback. What
happens to the input and output resistance in case of voltage series and current series
feedback.
b) An amplifier has an input impedance of 1K and output impedance of 10K and a
voltage gain of 10,000. If a negative feedback of =0.02 is applied to it, find the input
and output impedance of the amplifier.
3. a) Explain the working of an Emitter follower?
b) A voltage-series negative feedback amplifier has a voltage gain without feedback A
= 500, input resistance Ri = 3k, Output resistance Ro = 20k and feedback ratio =
0.01. Find the voltage gain Af, Input resistance Rif and the output resistance Rof of the
amplifier with feedback.
4. a) What are the Barkhausen conditions of oscillations?
b) Deduce the expressions for condition of oscillation and frequency of oscillation of
Wein bridge Oscillator.
5. a) Discuss in detail the a) Hartley Oscillator b) Colpitts Oscillator
b) Explain the working principle of RC Phase shift oscillator and derive the
expression for frequency of oscillation.
