Learning Objective(s):
The child will be enabled to:
Draw on their prior knowledge in order to categorise the countries of Europe using a
concept map.
Engage in a researching activity in order to identify and summarise relevant information
using online websites.
Publish a factual book using the Book Creator app in order to demonstrate their
creativity and present their findings.

Resources/Materials/Equipment:
IWB, A3 paper, IPADs, role cards.

Introduction:
We will introduce the children to this lesson with a concept map.
We will have a whole class discussion based on Europe in order to evaluate the
childrens prior knowledge.
Children will be asked to name as many countries of Europe as they can.
These suggestions will be recorded on the IWB.

Development:
We will then introduce the children to Book Creator
The children will be shown an example of a sound book previously created using with
app.
This book will be based on the countries of Europe and music associated with these
countries.
The children will be asked to give feedback on this app: What they liked about the app?
What they liked about the book?
In order to introduce the children to the steps involved in creating an online book, we will
create a sample class book using the IWB. I will demonstrate how to insert
text/images/sounds etc.
Children will be then placed in groups (mixed ability). In their groups the children will be
given iPads. The children will free play with this app for 5 minutes exploring the different
functions.
These groups will then be given the freedom to choose a European country. In their
groups, the children will be given roles: recorder, reporter, writer and researcher.
The class teacher will explain what is involved in each of these roles:
The recorder will create a brainstorm of suggested ideas from group members.

The writer will create the book using images and text proposed by group members.
The researcher will research facts about their given country.
The reporter will present this book to the rest of the class.
I will supervise these groups as the children work together.

Conclusion:
Groups will present their work and record the number of their iPad.

Extension Activity:
When children have completed their books on book creator, each group will present their
information to the class.
Children will have the opportunity to ask the groups questions about their work.
Two stars, one wish- Peer assessment activity. Children will highlight two aspects they
really liked and one thing which they would change/ do differently.
