Project Proposal

Executive Summary
The Executive Summary is an overview of the major points of the proposal. It should touch on the items below:
Driving Question, Vision or Goal, Objectives and Success Measures (Goal stories), Benefits, Approach, Objectives,
Scope, Recommendation, Deliverables, Risk Management.

Our PBL group plans to educate children about the importance of preventing and cleaning up pollution since we
start off with little to no foundation until we are older. We plan to work on a interactive and educational activity to
do with the students and have the children walk away with a starting point on environmental protection against
pollution. Many of us end up not caring because of when we start learning about it we are growing through phases
where we dont care and want to get it over with. But if we start off early like in elementary school it could change
the whole view for students on protecting the environment in the future. With this our goal is to give elementary
schoolers a foundation of which to learn and grow on the importance of environmental sustainability and Pollution
prevention/cleanup.

Overview
Problem/Need

High schoolers don't know how to prevent and clean up pollution because it was not taught to us early on.
Teenagers are not aware enough to live sustainable lifestyles because of the miscommunication of the idea when
they were children.

Vision or Goal

We, as a group are striving to open a door for the elementary school students to become accustomed to a mindset
that allows them to prevent, cleanup, and care about the issues of pollution.

Objectives and Success Measures

List specific objectives or expected outcomes associated with the project, and how they will be measured.
Students will begin to consider the idea that one small change in lifestyle can make a huge environmental impact.

Some typical objectives or outcomes are :

Defining pollution
Understanding real world situations where the students can make a change
Students being able to present lifestyle changes to prevent and clean up pollution

Benefits

Provide high level description of anticipated benefits for audience:

List all Anticipated Benefits resulting directly from the project. Specify the ways there will be measurable
improvement of new capabilities. Consider the implications of NOT doing the project what benefits would be
missed.

We should hope that each student will learn something new from our lesson .
Some students may even tell their parents or others about what they learned.
We think it will probably open some of their eyes to these legitimate issues, and may even surprise them

Strategic Alignment

Students will begin to understand that their lifestyle makes environmental impacts and even the slightest change
can create a ripple effect in our ecosystem. Our mission is to educate and promote sustainable lifestyles for
elementary schoolers. We will accomplish such education by providing interactive and full lessons on preventing
and cleaning up pollution.

Project Overview
Approach

The project will follow Program Management, SCRUM principles. SCRUM provides the framework for a phased
approach to project management. We have a SCRUM board set up, we will start adding and taking away from it
as we progress through the project.

Scope

Define what will and will not be done within your allotted timeframe .

We will have an electronic presentation that we will use for our lesson to a designated class
There will also be an interactive activity during the lesson
Lesson plan

Options

Electronic Lesson Plan Pros: entertaining visuals, easy to create, low cost, helpful for auditory learners Cons:
Technical Difficulties

Pollution Demonstration Pros: entertaining, helpful for visual learners, medium cost Cons: Medium cost,
complicates presentation

Interactive Activity Pros: entertaining, helpful for tactile learners, chance to apply given knowledge Cons:
rowdy students, possible miscommunication in directions, high risk

Recommendation

We, as a group, decided on this format of a lesson plan because of the way it caters to the different learning styles.
We also favored this format because of our personal experience of being in the student role.

Summarize the strategy that will be used to deliver the project and include benefit analysis, high level milestones
and dates, and assumptions. It is possible that a single option cannot yet be recommended; in that case, indicate
when and how the decision is likely to be made.

Electronic Lesson Plan (Completion Date TBD) Pros: entertaining visuals, easy to create, low cost, helpful for
auditory learners Cons: Technical Difficulties (Prezi or another visual aid website)

Pollution Demonstration (Completion Date TBD Pros: entertaining, helpful for visual learners, medium cost
Cons: Medium cost, complicates presentation (Using water bucket and food coloring)

Interactive Activity (Completion Date TBD) Pros: entertaining, helpful for tactile learners, chance to apply given
knowledge Cons: rowdy students, possible miscommunication in directions, high risk (TBD Pollution Experiment)

Deliverables

Provide a list and description of deliverables.

Classroom student audience: Commandeer an elementary science class for a day
Electronic Presentation: defining and explaining how to clean up and prevent pollution
Pollution Demonstration: using water and food coloring to demonstrate the large effects of pollution
Pollution Experiment: TBD

Risk Management
Project Risk

List and briefly describe Risks to the project that you have identified. Provide a list of high level risks and plans for
risk mitigation.
Technical difficulties: Create a back-up non-technical presentation
Rowdy class: Teacher will be present to control the attitude of the class.
Experiment: We will print out directions as well as verbally confirm them to create as little confusion as possible

Appendices (as required for detailed items)

The proposal should stand on its own with details (e.g. information on options not selected, risk worksheet, etc.)
included in appendices.

Date of actual lesson is pretty solid.

Originally chose to do a later date but went with March 13th because it's a snow makeup day, and it's the day
before Earth Day.

No other information noted.
