General Music

Music Concept/Title of Lesson: Ukulele Day 2


Grade Level: 5th
Date & Time: 11/29/16 Period 2

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to perform basic rhythms using a ukulele
2. Students will be able to read basic rhythms written in standard musical notation

Materials:
Laptop Tickets
Speakers Dry erase markers
Projector

Procedure:
1. Take attendance
2. Ukuleles
a. Expectations
i. Treat with Respect
ii. Take care of your instrument
iii. Follow my directions as they are given
b. Table Captains
i. Announce table captains, they pass out the ukuleles for their table while I
prepare for the day and take attendance.
c. Fiddle time 20 seconds to gentle play their instrument doing whatever
they want
i. Playing open strings
1. Notes of the strings show on board
ii. Strumming versus plucking
1. Demonstrate
d. Review Last Weeks Chords
i. C and Am
ii. Show on my instrument
iii. Have students play between C and Am at their own pace as I walk around to
check fingers
iv. Call & Response strum patterns
v. Strum Patterns Written on board
e. New Chord
i. F
ii. Put image on the board of our first two chords and new chord
iii. Have students try to work out where to put their fingers and play the chord
iv. Walk around and help students table by table
f. G Chord
i. Same procedure as before
Assessment:
Teacher will listen and visually observe students performance of rhythms
Teacher will listen and visually observe students ability to perform basic rhythms written in standard
music notation

as rhythm, pitch, form, and harmony) in music selected for performance.
