Farah,

Sure, I would set the hugepages for Oracle user on DB tier to get the better performance. for 11g,
the AMM needs to be turned off (i.e, use the manual memory management).

I have never had to set the hugepages on the appstier (applmgr) becuase the JVM cannot be
larger tha 4G due to its limitation of 32 bit. Yes, we can have multiple JVMs in which case one
can think of enabling hugePages on appsTier as well.

In any case, I would perform thorough/deteail level of performance testing with this chage in the
performance env.

Bhavin
Would you please confirm if memlock needs to be set for both "oracle" and "applmgr" users? My
app has a 150+SGA and 200GB HugePages. Setting memlock to 200GB (209715200)
Thanks
Farah

hi bhavin

Bhavin, Please ignore my previous post, I was able to figure it out... Just incase if someone needs
it. When a lower version or RDBMS_HOME (in this case 11.1.0.7) tries to talk to Grid
Infrastructure (CRS_HOME) 11.2.0.1, it cannot bring up the DB's up automatically. And this can
be resolved by applying 8262786 patch.
