10-1/SPECIAL FUNDAMENTALS
SAM- YOU ARE THE ADJUSTER . WE ASK YOU TO PENETRATE IN THE 10-1, AND BE A LB OR a
COVER GUY IN SPECIAL OR 40 SCHEME. IF IN THE 10 YOU ALIGN IN LEFT SIDE B GAP. IF
SPECIAL YOU ARE A LB UNLESS 1 BACK WHERE YOU MUST LOCATE # 2 WEAK (OR
DESIGNATED MATCHUP) AND COVER.

MIKE- RESPONSIBLE FOR DEFENSIVE CALLS AND GETTING US LINED UP. ALIGNED IN THE
MIDDLE OF THE FIELD IN THE 10-1 AND WHEN IN 1 BACK SPECIAL. ALIGNED STACKED
OVER B GAPPER IN TWO BACK SPECIAL AS SCOUTING REPORT DICTATES.

STRONG ALIGNS OVER TED WHEREVER HE GOES OR FINDS # TWO RECEIVER STRONG SIDE
AND COVERS HIM MAN TO MAN WHEREVER HE GOES. ALWAYS DENY INSIDE.

CORNERS ALIGNS OVER # 1 RECEIVER YOUR SIDE (UNLESS WE ARE IN MATCHUP) COVER #1
WHEREVER HE GOES. ALWAYS DENY INSIDE.

FREE YOU ARE THE ERASER -- ERASE THE MISTAKES OF THE 10 GUYS IN FRONT OF YOU.
RESPONSIBLE FOR ALIGNING THE SECONDARY AND MAKING SURE ALL RECEIVERS ARE
COVERED. IF A DEFENDER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE OR GET OUT TO COVER HIS DEFENDER
IT IS YOUR FAULT!!! IN THE 10-1 YOU ARE THE COVERAGE ADJUSTER. IF WE ARE IN 10 AND
DRAW A 1 BACK SET YOU ADJUST AND COVER #2 WEAK. OTHERWISE YOU ARE 99% OF THE
TIME FREE IN OUR MAN FREE SCHEME.

Sam/Mike stack behind B gaps with eyes keying near back. Flow to play fast,
flow away check A and play
Slow keeping in mind you are the cutback player.

This is something we will go to in situations where we are wanting to prevent the easy score or big
play.
Very much an extreme down and distance situation and can be used as our safe punt return.
Simply a man under 2 deep coverage. If run, Mike plays fast and Snake or Wolf is the cutback player
depending on flow.
Keys to Remember
PENETRATORS (T,N,Q) NEVER BE HOOKED OR REACHED,TUNNEL A DBL TEAM & SPIN A
DOWN. YOU ALWAYS HAVE DIVE VS OPTION.
EDGE PLAY-(B,W) KEEP OUTSIDE FREE, KEY NEARBACK OR FULLBACK IF I FORMATION.IF WE
ARE IN COVER 0 YOU WILL SPY NEAR BACK AND RUN WITH HIM. NEVER BE OUT
FLANKED.YOU ALWAYS HAVE QB VS OPTION UNLESS SCOUT TEAM DICTATES OTHERWISE.
LBS (SAM,MIKE) IF THEY ARE UNDER YOU ARE UNDER, KEY NEAR BACK, AND MIRROR THEIR
MOVEMENT. YOU HAVE YOUR BACK MAN TO MAN. IF HE BLOCKS RUN THROUGH HIM TO
THE QB.IF HE IS OUT ON ROUTE YOU ARE WITH HIM. AGAIN IF HE BLOCKS YOU ATTACK
HIM. (THIS PREVENTS SCREENS) YOU HAVE DIVE,QB,PITCH VS OPTION.
STRONG - ALIGN IN 9 TECH VS TED OR INSIDE IF IN BUDDY. 2 PT. STANCE STAREING AT THE
HIP OF TED OR # 2 RECEIVER.
COVER GUYS STARE AT THE HIP, KEEP EYES FIXED ON HIP OF THE RECEIVER ALWAYS DENY
INSIDE. NEVER ALLOW A RECEIVER INSIDE.
FREE- ERASE MISTAKES,READ DIAMOND,MIRROR QB AND FIT WITH LBS SLOW TO FAST AND BE
SURE TACKLER. YOU ARE THE CUTBACK PLAYER AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE
ALIGNMENT OF THE SECONDARY AND COVER GUYS. YOU ARE DIVE,QB,PITCH VS OPTION.
D- LINE PLAY (B-T-N-Q)
10-1/ SPECIAL

Gap alignment is inside foot up with outside leg back 4pt stance
ALWAYS in the gap, never a shade unless it is called aka Special 22
Hand in front of ball and head behind your hands. Turn @ key ball
Upon snap penetrate low with outside step. When called, attack
shins/ knees of lineman to your outside. Take three steps up field and
find ball
If your gap moves then you go with it
NEVER GET HOOKED OR REACHED!!!!!
Give HEAVY/LIGHT call. Very crucial to our success
Be low and attack any lead blockers. Clog up your GAP!!
EDGE PLAY (B-W)
10-1/ SPECIAL

Edge alignment is inside foot up with outside leg back 2pt stance.
Your alignment is as wide as it takes to NEVER GET REACHED!!
Key near back -- never be out flanked. Always keep outside arm free.
If given a C gap, you are in a 4 pt. Buddy call puts you on outside
edge.
Responsible for (CCR) CX/Cut back/Reverse when flow away.
Funnel everything back inside. Nothing gets outside of you.
Never allow a back to cross your face without a collision.
Responsible for QB vs option unless scout report dictates otherwise.
Cover 0 dictates an automatic spy call. Spy back out your side.
Linebacker play (S-M-F)

In Special, backers will stack behind the B gappers tight to the LOS
In 1 back sets the Sam adjusts to cover #2 weak or match up. Mike
stacks behind the Nose. 10-1, Sam goes to left side B gap, Mike stacks
behind A gappers.
Key your near back and mirror his movement.
Flow to you, play fast inside out. Flow away, check A and play slow.
If your back blocks, hug up to him and attack through him to QB.
Option responsibility for S,M,F is Dive/QB/Pitch.
Wolf Safety- is the eraser/cutback player in 1 backer fronts and must
play slow to fast -- never in front of his backers. Banana route to
ball!!
Secondary Play (C-$-F)
10-1/ SPECIAL

Corners align slightly inside in press coverage with knees bent
and hands up. You must stare at the hip of the receiver.
Strong is aligned as a 9 tech on TED or inside alignment vs #2 strong.
Strong must stare at the hip of the TED and not get hooked.
Corners and Strong should never have eyes in the backfield. NEVER!
If your man goes in motion, go with him, beating him across the
field.
Corners and Strong will learn 9 tech. Buddy puts you at inside
edge player. If in Buddy, Deny an inside release!
Free aligns with heels at 8 yds reading the diamond and mirrors QB.
In man free (cover 1) assist over the top when ball is thrown.
