In this bulletin you will hear about some of
the work Inclusion North is doing and
information about what is happening across
the country.
How to get the right support using the law

People with learning disabilities (aged 16+) and family


carers have stronger rights under the Care Act. Do you
know how the Care Act might affect you and your family
member?

Family Adviser Vacancy With Inclusion
North
Inclusion North are looking for 2 part time Family
Advisers.

We are looking for people who

Have experience of being a family carer or


family member for a person who uses learning
disability services, autism services or both.

Have an understanding of the issues that


families may encounter in accessing services
and support.

What will the Family Advisers do?

As part of the Inclusion North team the Family


Advisers will:

Support Inclusion North to understand the big


issues for families and to develop our
engagement with families.

Support the inclusion and engagement of


families in Inclusion Norths work.

To engage and work in partnership with family


organisations.

To support Inclusion North to develop and/or


coordinate a way for families to connect.

About the Family Adviser role

The Salary for the Family Adviser role will be based


on a 25,000 full time role.

The Family Adviser part time salary will be 5,000


over a year.

The hours will be 7 hours a week worked flexibly


for 12 months

1 role will be based from home in the North East.

1 role will be based from home in Yorkshire and


Humber.

Both roles will be required to travel throughout their


region.

Housing Options Workshop
On 24th March Inclusion North are hosting a free
Housing Options workshop for people with learning
disabilities and families across Yorkshire and
Humber and the North East. The workshop is taking
place in York, and speakers include:

Shared Lives, and

David Abbey from My Safe Home Limited

At the event you will:

Get a clearer understanding of the different


types of housing options that are available

Hear in more detail about how Shared Lives


works

Have the chance to ask questions to our expert


speakers

help you begin to plan the best choice for you
and your family

Family Based Positive Support Project

Northumbria University and the Northumberland


Tyne and Wear NHS trust have a family based
support project.

They are researching a new course that could help


family carers who look after adults with a learning
disability and who also might have a behaviour that
challenges.

The new course will help people learn new ways of


managing stress.

The course uses Positive Behaviour Support


Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness.

They are looking for families who have had support


from Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust to
take part in the course.

Meet Commissioners from Durham County
Council.

Members of the commissioning team at Durham


County Council will be speaking at a Breakfast
Seminar. They will be talking about what they look
for from charities and not-for-profit organisations
when they plan new services.

NHS England has developed a new and innovative
online course for anyone in Transforming Care
Partnerships and people delivering care and
support to people with learning disabilities and/or
autism

NHS England has released a new short film called


Getting Involved at NHS England

The film has been co-produced with people with a


learning disability and is designed to be as
accessible as possible.

This film aims to tell people about NHS England and


why people might want to get involved in its work.

New Information About Trends in Health &
Social Care Funding

The Health Foundation has published a new online


resource.

Health and Social Care Funding Explained looks at


how Health and Social Care have been paid for in
the past and might be paid for in the future.

North Yorkshire County Council Survey

North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) is


developing a new Technology Enabled Care
(Assistive Technology) strategy.

This is about how technology, computers and other


IT can help people to live better lives.

They want to talk to people about telecare to gather


information and opinions about the current and
future telecare service.

Parent Carer Information Day in York

York Carers Centre is running a Parent Carer


Information day with York Parent Carer Forum.

It is an opportunity for parent carers to drop in, have


a drink and get advice, information and support from
different groups including Family Fund, Core Assets
and the City of York Councils Transition's Team.

It will be held on Wednesday 22 March


From 12pm to 2.30pm
At New Earswick Folk Hall.

Membership of York Parent Carer Forum is free and


open to parents and carers of children and young
people aged 0-25 who have a disability or additional
need and access services in York.

Friends Action North East (FANE) launch North


East Accessibility Rating (NEAR) Awards.

The North East Accessibility Rating Guide is an


online map for people to find out about the social
and physical accessibility of venues in the North
East.

During Disability Week, FANE will be launching the


guide, and giving awards to the most accessible
venues.

Have you gone somewhere you had been told was


accessible, only to find out you couldnt get in or
that the toilets werent accessible?

FANE are trying to stop this happening, by providing


accurate information and raising awareness with
businesses about why accessibility is important.

Give it a go day

Special Olympics South Yorkshire are having a


taster day

Sunday 26th March

Last years people of all ages from 13 to 77 years


came along. Everyone is welcome.

The event is for people with a learning disability that

All of the coaches will be from local clubs that you
might like to continue with after the taster day.

Newlife launch Newlifeable equipment
service

A charity called Newlife that supports disabled


children and their families are refurbishing specialist
equipment and listing it on a new website.

Families who could not afford to buy the equipment


from new, can pay a reduced cost for a refurbished
piece, or get help to pay for it.
